Aeri had been feeling off for two days now, nothing major, but just enough for her mood to swing left and right whenever there was a minor inconvenience. She felt a bit nauseous in the mornings and had been craving strawberries more than she ever had. She did like them, but it was surprising for her to crave them in the middle of winter, when barely anyone sold any.
She had linked it to stress, work had been intense, and they were still trying to adjust to their new lifestyle. But then, she missed her heat. And omegas were like clockwork when it came to their cycles. Every six weeks. All the time. Aeri’s was supposed to start three days ago, and it didn't.
So she told herself not to panic, stress could’ve been an aggravating factor, there were a dozen explanations that didn’t involve–
No, she wasn’t going to think about that.
But by the fifth day of her missed heat, fear churned through her stomach, and she couldn’t hide it anymore.
She was in the bathroom, staring at herself in the mirror, her hand resting on her stomach, trying to decide whether she should tell Jimin about her growing concern when the alpha appeared in the doorway.
“Hey,” Jimin said, wrapping her arms around Aeri’s waist from behind, nuzzling her face into her neck. “Are you okay? You’ve been quiet since we woke up.”
“I’m fine,” Aeri leaned into her embrace, a sigh escaping her lips.
Jimin pulled back slightly to meet her eyes in the mirror. “Liar. What’s wrong?”
“Nothing’s wrong I–”
“Aeri,” Jimin turned her around. “You seem to forget I know you. I know when something is bothering you. Talk to me, please.”
Aeri bit her lip, debating internally. This was Jimin after all, her lover, her mate, the person she trusted more on earth. She couldn’t keep this from her.
“I missed my heat,” Aeri admitted quietly.
Jimin blinked. “You–what?”
“My heat,” Aeri repeated slowly. “It was supposed to start five days ago and–It hasn’t.”
Jimin’s eyes widened as she seemed to understand. “But–but that means–”
“I don’t know what it means,” Aeri interrupted quickly, her tone slightly panicked. “It could be stress or–or my body I don’t know–”
“Or you could be pregnant,” Jimin said, voice barely above a whisper.
“I don’t know,” Aeri’s voice cracked. “I haven’t–I haven’t taken a test yet. I didn’t want to–I wasn’t sure if I should–”
Jimin gently cupped her face. “Hey, it’s okay, breathe.”
“But if I am–” Aeri said shakily. “Jimin you’ve already lost so much and now if there’s a baby–”
“If there’s a baby,” Jimin said as steadily as possible, her thumbs brushing across her cheekbones. “That’s not a loss,” she paused to take a deep breath. “That would be the greatest gift you could ever give me.”
Aeri’s eyes started to fill with tears, emotion taking over. “Really? But–”
“Really,” Jimin pulled her into a hug. “I know the timing isn’t ideal, I know we haven’t discussed kids seriously. But Aeri I–if you’re pregnant with my pup, if we’re building our own family I–that’s everything I could have ever wished for.”
“You’re not scared?” Aeri looked up at her with worried eyes.
