Content Guidelines

Fanprose is a platform for fan fiction — transformative, derivative works inspired by existing media. These guidelines exist to keep the community welcoming for writers and readers of all kinds.

1. Ratings

Every story on Fanprose is either General or Mature. Accurate rating is required — under-rating content may result in moderation action.

• General: Suitable for all audiences. No graphic violence, sexual content, or heavy themes.
• Mature: Contains graphic violence, sexual themes, strong language, or dark subject matter. Mature stories can be hidden by readers who prefer not to see them.

2. Trigger Warnings & Tags

Fanprose supports free-form trigger warnings and tags at the story and chapter level. Accurate tagging is expected — it helps readers make informed choices and find stories they’ll enjoy.

• Use trigger warnings for content that may be distressing, including but not limited to: graphic violence, sexual assault, self-harm, suicide, abuse, eating disorders, and major character death.
• Tag your fandom, characters, ships, and major themes accurately.
• Do not use misleading tags to manipulate readers or game discovery.

3. Derivative Works & Fan Fiction

Fan fiction is transformative work. Fanprose supports stories based on existing characters, worlds, and universes. A few ground rules:

• Stories must be your own creative work. Plagiarism and content theft are strictly prohibited — see section 4 for details.
• Stories must be clearly fan fiction — do not present derivative work as original or copyright-free.
• Original fiction is also welcome on Fanprose.

4. Prohibited Content

The following is not permitted on Fanprose under any circumstances. Violations may result in content removal, account suspension, or a permanent ban.

• Sexual content involving minors: Any sexual or explicitly romantic content depicting characters under 19, regardless of fictional framing or canon age.
• Real-person fiction involving minors: To comply with international law, romantic or sexual content depicting real people under the age of 19 is strictly prohibited — regardless of the person’s current age. This includes depicting a real person as they were at an age under 19. Stories featuring real people in non-romantic, non-sexual contexts are unaffected.
• Visual pornography: Uploading sexually explicit images or other visual media is strictly prohibited and will result in an immediate permanent ban.
• Non-consensual content used to glorify or romanticize: Depictions of sexual assault or non-consensual scenarios that exist to glorify, romanticize, or fetishize the act are prohibited. Non-consensual themes may only appear when used as a genuine narrative element in service of the story — not as the story’s appeal. Authors must use appropriate trigger warnings and the Mature rating.
• Suggestive or explicit AI-generated media: Uploading AI-generated images or videos that are sexually suggestive, explicit, or depict real people in compromising scenarios is strictly prohibited and will result in an immediate permanent ban.
• Plagiarism and content theft: Copying another author’s writing — in whole or in part — and presenting it as your own is strictly prohibited. This includes work from other fan fiction platforms, published books, and any other source. If we determine that a story contains plagiarized content, it will be removed immediately and the account may be banned.
• Hate speech: Content whose primary purpose is to dehumanize or incite violence against any group based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or national origin.
• Harmful instructions: Guides or advocacy for real-world violence, self-harm, or illegal activity presented non-fictionally.
• Doxxing: Publishing another person’s real name, address, or other private information without consent.
• Illegal substance imagery: Uploading images that depict illegal drugs, controlled substances, or drug paraphernalia is prohibited. Written fictional references within stories are permitted when used as a genuine narrative element with appropriate warnings.
• Gore and graphic violence imagery: Uploading images depicting real or realistic gore, mutilation, severe injuries, or graphic violence is prohibited. Written depictions of violence in fiction are permitted under the Mature rating with appropriate trigger warnings.
• Illegal activity imagery: Uploading images that depict, promote, or instruct real-world illegal activity — including but not limited to weapons manufacturing, human trafficking, or animal abuse — is prohibited and may result in an immediate permanent ban.
• Spam: Stories or comments created for advertising, SEO manipulation, or any non-creative commercial purpose.

5. Community Conduct

Comments and interactions should be respectful. Constructive criticism is welcome; harassment is not.

• Do not harass, bully, or threaten other users.
• Respect the “don’t like, don’t read” principle — trigger warnings and ratings exist so readers can make their own choices.
• Do not abuse the reporting system.
• Do not impersonate other users, public figures, or Fanprose staff through your username, profile, or content.
• Creating alternate accounts to evade a ban, manipulate platform systems, or circumvent moderation actions is prohibited. All associated accounts may be permanently banned.
• Do not farm photocards by posting spammy, low-effort, or insincere interactions (comments, replies, likes, etc.) for the sole purpose of earning rewards. Accounts found gaming the photocard system may have their collection reset and face suspension.

6. Enforcement

We review reported content and may take the following actions:

• Requesting corrections to rating, tags, or content warnings
• Removing content that violates these guidelines
• Issuing a warning to the author
• Suspending or permanently banning accounts for serious or repeated violations
• Community-flagged content: When a significant number of community members flag a piece of content, it will be escalated for moderator review. Content that the community collectively identifies as harmful or in violation of these guidelines may be removed following that review.

Fanprose values its community’s voice. If you believe content violates these guidelines, use the report feature. Reports from multiple community members signal to our moderation team that content needs priority review.
