The wedding was in a few days.
Chaeyoung was able to get Mina and Yukiko at her mother’s place, despite watching Mina be bombarded by hugs, squeals, and questions by Chaeyoung’s mom. Though they were very patient with Yukiko, knowing that the teenager knew very little Korean, Mina had to translate everything again for her niece.
It was a happy sight though. The look of happiness and excitement was warming Tzuyu’s heart but there was still a gigantic hole inside her chest because she wished she could see Sana.
They told her that Sana didn’t cancel her flight. But they didn't get a response from her when they asked if she really was still going. And that scared Tzuyu.
She was contemplating already if she should give up or keep hoping that she would still be able to see Sana again and they could reconcile whatever issue they had. Or at least Tzuyu could clear out whatever bad air they had, even if she knew there wasn’t anything. She wanted to be there to assure Sana if she had any doubts. Tzuyu was willing to fight for her, for them. She would do anything to have Sana back in her life.
Tzuyu was picking on the coaster of her drink Dahyun served them. Her mind was wandering again, she only had a few days till she found out if Sana really was going to the wedding.
“I should book a flight to Japan,” Tzuyu said suddenly, breaking the momentary silence between them, making Chaeyoung and Dahyun shoot their heads up to look at her.
“And what? Go to her apartment, hoping you can catch her but when you least expect it, she’s not there because she’s on a plane to Seoul to do the same for you?” Chaeyoung raised a brow.
Dahyun smacked her on the arm. “I thought we were supposed to support her, not be a complete asswipe about it.”
“What? I’m just saying.” Chaeyoung shrugged and then looked at Tzuyu. “You really need to wait for her. She didn’t cancel the flight; she didn’t revoke her invitation. She will be at the wedding. I believe in it. My left testicle believes in it.”
Tzuyu and Dahyun winced. “Dude.”
Chaeyoung shrugged again. “What? That’s how much confidence I have in you guys.”
Dahyun shook her head and focused on Tzuyu, rolling her eyes at their other friend. “As much as I don’t want to agree with this dumbass right here, but she’s right.” She let out a breath. “We asked and Sana hasn’t canceled anything. So there’s a big chance that she’ll still attend the wedding. You just gotta put your faith there.”
Tzuyu looked at both of them, unsure if believing them was a safe thing to do, because of all the wishful thinking she had been doing. She might regret it, or something good would come out of it. It was hard, but she knew that being hopefull was better than giving up like a coward. So she took a breath and eventually nodded. “You’re right.”
Easier said than done, but she was willing to try.
Anything for Sana.
“You’re putting a lot of faith in us, Tzuyu,” Jiwoo said after placing Kaya and Butter into their temporary kennel. She secured the door and then smiled at her workmate. “If they cry, I will have to call you.”
Tzuyu chuckled, she looked at her dogs as they were settling in, already lying down and nuzzling towards each other. “I trust you guys. Plus, they started off here, and it’s better than anywhere else.”
Jiwoo shrugged playfully. “Well at least we got people here to take care of them while we’re at the wedding.”
“That’s true.” Tzuyu sighed, walking out towards the reception with Jiwoo. “Just have to make sure Kaya takes her meds. She’s the only one left who needs to take it.”
“You got it, chief.” Jiwoo sat down on her chair and waved at Tzuyu.
Tzuyu waved back and exited the shelter. The dinner rehearsal was tonight and even if she knew that Sana wasn’t part of it, there was a small feeling of hope that she would be able to see her as soon as then.
However, she disliked how everyone was telling her that Sana hasn’t backed out and all that. Because she didn't want to be lied to. Nor did she want to get her hopes up. Why? Why were they telling her that? No one confirmed if Sana actually took the plane to Korea, despite her flight being on the same day as Mina and Chaeyoung. She really didn’t want to put her hopes up, it was meddling up with her brain and she couldn’t think straight again.
She tried to remember what Dahyun said to her, that she had to put her faith in it and she had from the start. There was no doubt about that. But the three months of waiting was making her want to give up on the idea and just accept that they would never happen. Tzuyu didn't want to force something that wasn't meant to be and she hated the idea of making Sana unhappy. If this was the only way then she might as well just let life take its course.
Tzuyu had been dying to have a good night's sleep for once; instead of staring at the ceiling or reading their chat over and over again. She just wanted answers, even if Sana chooses to leave in the end, she just wanted to know the reason why. She knew that she deserved that.
“Tzuyu?” a voice called behind her. The chilling sound of the familiar voice made her stop on her tracks. She turned around slowly, hoping it wasn’t who it was.
It was Se-Ri.
“Oh.” Was all Tzuyu could say.
She looked the same, except that she her hair was shorter. Tzuyu remembered Se-Ri telling her how she hated the idea of shoulder length hair, and yet here she was, with hair that was only touching her jaws.
“Can we talk? Please?”
Tzuyu sighed. If she rejected her another time, there was a chance that Se-Ri might not stop bothering her. Even if it had been a while since the last time she did. Might as well.
“Okay,” Tzuyu said softly. Then she looked around and saw the cafe she went to with Jeongyeon and Jihyo. “Let’s go there.” She pointed at the cafe and started walking, not bothering to wait for her ex to follow.
Se-Ri didn’t respond, but Tzuyu could sense that she was following behind her. There was no way in hell that Tzuyu was going to let this woman walk beside her again. For her, it would allow her ex to think that their habits didn’t change, and she didn’t want that. She needed to set that boundary so that whatever Se-Ri had in mind for this talk, she wouldn’t allow her to think or believe that things could revert back to the way it was before.
As they entered the cafe, Se-Ri already went to the counter and looked at the menu.
“You still drink anything with almond milk?” she asked, glancing back at Tzuyu.
“No, just order and I’ll follow,” Tzuyu said bluntly. She didn’t miss how Se-Ri’s expression changed, knowing her hostility gave offense to her. But Tzuyu didn’t care, she was making sure there was that boundary between them.
After Se-Ri finished her order, Tzuyu stepped in immediately and made hers.
Tzuyu walked back to their table and placed a drink in front of Se-Ri and then hers, then sat down in front of her.
“How have you been?” Se-Ri adjusted herself awkwardly on her seat. “I bumped into Xiao, and she told me you went to Japan for a few months.”
Tzuyu hummed. Seeing no point in getting frustrated at her friend since she was also close to Se-Ri during their relationship. “Yeah, I needed to get away from the apartment for a while,” she said in honesty, there was also no reason for her to beat around the bush anymore.
Se-Ri nodded, looking down at her lap. Tzuyu observed her, trying to understand why she was showing this demeanor because Tzuyu knew how strong her personality was and that she wasn’t the type to feel so small, especially towards her.
“What do you want, Ri?” Tzuyu asked, crossing her arms on her chest.
She clicked her teeth. “Can’t I talk to you without any problems? I’m not here for the angst, Tzu.”
Tzuyu rolled her eyes and got up from her seat. “I’m leaving.”
Se-Ri immediately grabbed her wrist and stopped her. “Okay, please.” She looked up at her, the look on her face was hard to read. “I’m sorry. Just please, hear me out.”
She sighed, waited for Se-Ri to release her, and sat back down. “I’m listening.”
Se-Ri rested her back on the seat and looked at Tzuyu. “I just wanted to properly apologize.” She took a breath. “For everything.”
“For what? For cheating on me multiple times with multiple people for six months? Or because you caused a scene inside my apartment building and forced your way inside?” Tzuyu raised a brow. She was aware that she shouldn’t be this arrogant but the idea of having Se-Ri in front of her was making her uncomfortable and she had to keep her senses sharp in case Se-Ri was going to manipulate her again.
Se-Ri pursed her lips, brows slowly scrunching together but she only took a deep breath and slowly let it out. “Yes, Tzuyu. For all of that.” She carded her hand through her short hair and looked back at Tzuyu. “I want to apologize sincerely because I was selfish and that I wasn’t strong enough to really tell you the truth.”
“Was it because of my dick?” Tzuyu asked, a bit too urgent since she knew this was her only chance to find out the truth.
