Winter stomped her foot in annoyance. She stood in front of her school gate, occasionally glancing left and right. Her face grew increasingly pouty when she couldn’t find the person she was waiting for. Winter glanced at her watch—it had been almost an hour, and there was still no sign of him. Just so you know, Winter hated waiting more than anything. The girl had once refused to speak to her older brother for three whole days because he made her wait two hours. You could call Winter dramatic, but that’s just how much she hated the thing called “waiting.”
Winter stared at the tips of her shoes. She felt uncomfortable in her white shoes that had accompanied her for the past two years. These were her favorite shoes, given by her father on her sixteenth birthday, but unfortunately, they were now too small for Winter’s feet. She loved them so much that she kept wearing them even though they no longer fit comfortably.
Winter’s expression turned even fiercer when she finally spotted the person she had been waiting for. He was running toward her in a hurry. His tired eyes seemed to beg for forgiveness for making her wait. Winter just rolled her eyes lazily.
“Sorry, Winter. I’m late picking you up.”
Winter stayed silent, staring at the guy who was her boyfriend. They had been together for a year—how could he not know the one thing she hated most? For God’s sake, Winter hated waiting more than anything.
If he hadn’t said he would pick her up, Winter would have gone home an hour ago. They went to different schools, something Winter sometimes regretted because he couldn’t see his girl all the time.
“Whatever, Y/n. Let’s go home. I’m tired.” They walked toward the bus stop with Winter leading the way ahead of Y/n. Y/n chose to stay quiet. Winter must be really angry with him right now. He hadn’t meant to make her wait at all. But there was something important he had to do earlier.
They got on the bus and sat in the second row from the back. Winter ignored Y/n, clearly still mad at her boyfriend. She also didn’t feel like arguing—her body was exhausted. If she weren’t so tired, she probably would have blown up at him completely.
They arrived at the bus stop not far from Winter’s house. Winter walked ahead of Y/n again. Y/n could only sigh at the sight. It was better to stay silent than make things worse.
Y/n wasn’t the type who liked arguing either. Throughout his relationship with Winter, he always gave in to whatever she wanted, except when it was bad for them—he would gently try to tell her. You could say Y/n was blinded by love, but Winter was too precious to him.
When they reached the front yard of Winter’s house, Winter turned around. Her face was blank, showing no expression at all.
“Thank you for picking me up. Next time, don’t bother if you can’t make it, rather than making me wait.”
After that, Winter strode into her house, leaving Y/n standing at the door. Winter’s words might have been harsh, but Y/n definitely wouldn’t make a big deal out of it. He knew his girl hated the word “waiting.” Winter also always tried not to make other people wait.
“Y/n? Why are you standing there? Why don’t you come in? Come on inside.
Y/n looked up and saw Winter’s older brother standing in front of him. Y/n gave his sweet smile and looked at Kai.
“No need, Hyung. But can I ask you for a favor?”
Kai furrowed his brow at his little sister’s boyfriend. The man nodded to answer Y/n’s request.
Winter was finishing her math homework when there was a knock on her bedroom door. Kai appeared, carrying a package in his hands. Her brother approached and placed the package on her bed. Winter looked at him in confusion, then glanced at the package he had just put down.
“Someone asked me to give this to you earlier.”
After that, Kai left the room.
Winter put down her pencil and picked up the package. Curious, she opened it. The sweet-faced girl looked surprised when she opened the cardboard box. It was a pair of shoes exactly like her current ones that were too small, but in a larger size. They were identical to hers.
Winter laughed happily. She immediately tried them on. Her smile grew wider when the shoes fit perfectly on her feet. Just right. Not too small like her old ones.
Winter checked the box again and found a letter inside. Impatiently, she opened it. Winter couldn’t help but smile as she read it. The contents made her heart flutter.
How do you like my gift, Winter?
I bought it for you. You told me your favorite shoes no longer fit, but you loved them so much that you didn’t want to stop wearing them. So I thought of buying the exact same ones.
That’s why I was late picking you up earlier. I was picking up this shoe order. They don’t sell this model anymore, so I had to order it. I placed the order the day after you told me. I hope you like it.
~Y/n
Winter hugged the letter. Of course she liked it. Ugh, her boyfriend had successfully made her heart bloom. Y/n might not be the romantic type like the guys her friends talked about, but Winter could guarantee that Y/n was very attentive. She felt a little guilty for being angry with him that afternoon. But she was still annoyed that he had made her wait.
The next morning, Y/n promised again to pick Winter up after school. He also promised he wouldn’t be late anymore.
Winter smiled brightly when she saw Y/n already standing in front of her school gate. She jogged over to him.
“I’m not late, right?”
Winter shook her head. The girl looked down at the tips of her shoes, making Y/n follow her gaze. He smiled happily when he saw Winter wearing the shoes he had given her.
“Thank you.”
“You’re welco—”
Cup.
Y/n’s eyes widened when Winter quickly kissed his lips. Oh God. This was the first time Winter had ever kissed him first. Even Y/n himself didn’t dare ask for a kiss from Winter, not even on the cheek. And now she had just kissed him on the lips. Don’t wake him up if this is a dream.
“Come on, the bus is here.”
Y/n looked at Winter, whose cheeks were now blushing. He was sure his own cheeks were red too. Y/n smile grew even wider. He walked alongside Winter and slipped his large hand between her fingers, holding her small hand. This made Winter’s cheeks blush even more.
