I stared at the white-dominated building with a smile. It had been almost five years since I last visited this place. The place where I often poured out my complaints whenever my parents fought. Or when I got bored studying at school because my brain was already full of problems from home.
And also... the place where I was supposed to keep my promise with that sweet boy.
Y/n.
I have been friends with him since junior high school. It started when he always scolded me because I never followed the school rules. I never wore my uniform neatly and often skipped class. I never did my homework or school assignments.
Time felt so fast with him. I was able to graduate with fairly satisfying grades, thanks to that boy's support. We enrolled in the same high school. He was the one who invited me to register there. It wasn't a top school, but it had a good reputation. Besides being able to get into that school, he could also watch over me again. I followed his suggestion. After all, to me, all schools were the same. My parents never told me to go to the school of their choice either.
On the other hand, I also wanted to always be with Y/n. I didn't have as many friends as Y/n did. He and I were like chalk and cheese. Karina lay down her body at the edge of the soccer field. Running around this fairly large field ten times had completely drained all her energy. Even this morning's breakfast wasn't enough to give her more energy to stand up.
"If you keep going like this, I'm sure you won't graduate, Yoo Jimin."
Karina turned her head toward the source of the voice. That boy, Y/n, walked toward Karina with a bottle of mineral water in his right hand. Karina changed her lying position to sitting. Y/n then sat down beside the ponytail girl while handing over the mineral water he brought.
"I'm tired of hearing your curses, Y/n. It's not my fault I was late to school. I was having breakfast and the bus wouldn't wait for me," said Karina while opening the cap of the mineral water bottle and then drinking it.
"Still making excuses. Luckily, Teacher Boa didn't come in this morning. So, I don't have to lie just to give you a drink."
"Ohooo! So a good kid like you is willing to lie for me?" said Karina after gulping the mineral water until half was left.
"Don't pretend you don't know!" Y/n grumbled.
Karina laughed. Making Y/n, who was initially annoyed, laugh along with her.
"Come on! Let's go back to class," said Y/n, while squatting with his back to Karina.
"What are you doing?" asked Karina with one eyebrow raised.
"Don't you want me to carry you?"
Karina's laughter immediately burst out. Y/n clicked his tongue. Karina always laughed whenever Y/n acted 'unlike himself'. The Y/n that Karina knew was the fussy Y/n. Showing his care by scolding Karina. Not sweet attention like this.
"No wonder they think we're dating. Your attitude toward me is too sweet," Karina teased.
"What?"
Karina tried hard to hold back her laughter when she saw Y/n's expression.
"Why?" asked Y/n.
"Nothing," answered Karina, who was still holding back her laughter. She averted her gaze when Y/n looked at her sharply.
"In that case—"
"Come on! Let's go back to class." Without warning, Karina jumped onto Y/n's back. Y/n almost fell. Luckily, he managed to keep his balance well.
As he was about to walk, Y/n turned his head to the side. Making his cheek almost touch Karina's nose. Karina immediately looked away. The girl's cheeks heated up. And Y/n could see Karina's blushing cheeks.
"Jimin-ah..."
"W-what?"
"What if I fall in love with you?"
Silence for a few moments. Karina felt her heart as if it had stopped beating. Did I hear it wrong? Y/n... in love with me? thought Karina.
Y/n sighed softly. Karina remained still. Y/n and Karina often heard their classmates talking about how close they were. The rumors about them dating were always denied by both of them. Even so, Karina often felt strange flutters in her chest whenever Y/m treated her sweetly.
"Ah. Just forget it. I was just—"
"I like you too," Karina said quickly.
The atmosphere became silent again. Without realizing it, the corners of Y/n's lips curved upward. Unlike Karina, whose face was now like a boiled crab. Y/n couldn't hold back his happiness because it turned out Karina liked him too.
"Do you want to go to church?" Y/n asked, breaking the silence between them.
"Huh?"
