Jimin was lounging in her living room, playing something on her phone, probably bored out of her mind because it was a Sunday, and she didn't know what to do when it was Sundays and Chaeyoung wasn’t around to bother her.
She thought about bothering Aeri, maybe hanging out or grabbing a drink by the pub down the street. But she knew her best friend had been spending most of her free days with Yizhuo and Jimin didn't want to be the one to cockblock her from her new… whatever it was they had. Aeri had been happier these days and Jimin loved that for her.
Then there was Tzuyu. But even everyone knew that if the woman didn't initiate anything that was a clear sign that she was either busy or not interested in hanging out.
Over the years of their friendship, Jimin had gotten accustomed to her introverted friends and their habits. Chaeyoung may seem like a firecracker, but in reality, her roommate loved spending time in her room or alone with Mina and Jimin respected that.
Tzuyu on the other hand was completely understanding that she would only go out if the three of them would bug her enough to go out. Plus, her job was pretty taxing for Jimin to comprehend, so she didn't usually ask her to hang out. Unless Jimin was in dire need of her friend’s company.
Jimin could probably call up her sister, or maybe hangout with her sister’s wife because she was fun to be around. But she also didn’t want to disturb them.
Of course, none of these curious, decisive or indecisive thoughts would be complete if she didn’t have Minjeong in it. She thought about going over to her neighbor’s unit to check if she wanted to hang out or go outside to get some ice cream. Jimin had always thought about bothering Minjeong and since they were friends again and that there was nothing holding her back, these thoughts and desires were coming back with a vengeance.
It took a lot of self-control to fight these thoughts because she didn't want to bother Minjeong. Her neighbor was probably busy doing other things and Jimin was too shy and too deep in her head to do something about it.
Jimin took off her glasses, fell back on the couch and placed her phone down on her chest. She used her arm to cover her eyes and sighed, lazily dropping her glasses on the floor.
In her mind, she recalled the date, and remembered Aeri’s message about seeing Doctor Im. Maybe she should since she was still required to see her therapist. Not that she minded, in fact, Jimin caught herself looking forward to her sessions. She knew that her therapist genuinely wanted to help her out.
She knew that the only reason why she was always resistant about it was because of her medication or the feeling of being weak and vulnerable. Like a person with a crutch. Jimin didn't want to be handicapped or be her friend’s special needs case. She wanted to be strong; she still wanted to be a person people could depend on.
But she had to do this, or she wouldn't get better.
Jimin sighed, but before she could jump back into her pit of helpless thoughts, her phone vibrated. It was probably her friends again, or maybe an email from Duolingo because she stopped trying to learn Japanese for days and the owl was back to annoy the shit out of her again.
She lifted her phone to read the notification, and her eyes went wide.
11:59 AM
@imwinter sent you a message: Hey, hey
Jimin immediately sat up straight, and squinted at her phone, trying to check if what she was seeing was real.
True enough, when she swiped her phone open, it led her to the direct messages on her Twitter and Minjeong’s profile was there, with an unread message from her.
Jimin took a moment to compose herself, shaking her head a few times, blinking her eyes repeatedly so she was sure her eyesight was clear. Then she scrambled to grab her glasses that she left on the floor and placed them on.
Okay, she was sure that the message was from Minjeong. Jimin started typing with shaking hands.
11:59 AM
Kim Minjeong: Hey, hey
Yu Jimin: Hey, what’s up?
Kim Minjeong: I made cookies. You want some?
Jimin couldn’t stop smiling when she read the message and typed back quickly this time.
12:01 PM
Yu Jimin: :D :D :D
Yu Jimin: Yes, please.
Yu Jimin: I’ll come over?
Jimin was already wearing her jacket and slipping on her sneakers when she was about to send that message. She grabbed her keys and went out the door, securing it first before she walked towards Minjeong’s door.
12:04 PM
Kim Minjeong: If you want to? I can always go there.
Yu Jimin: Too late
Yu Jimin: Knocking
Jimin took a deep, yet excited sigh, and knocked on the door twice. She didn’t want to sound too eager so twice was enough.
It didn’t take long for her to wait, and she could hear small footsteps inside the apartment. In seconds, the door opened slowly, to reveal a very dirty and adorable looking Minjeong. She had a big smile on her face and the apartment smelled like cookies.
Jimin loved it.
“Hi! Come in,” Minjeong opened the door wider to let her in. Jimin bowed first by the entrance before she entered, removing her shoes and neatly placing them at the side.
“Smells really good,” she said as she walked over to the counter, curiously eyeing the multiple trays of cookies displayed on Minjeong’s kitchen counter. Jimin had her hands behind her back to resist from taking a piece and eating it. Her mouth was already watering from the sight.
Minjeong giggled and grabbed the big container she prepared for Jimin. She padded towards Jimin and almost felt too shy to hand it to her, but the way the taller girl was looking at her made her even more flushed.
“H-here,” Minjeong tried to shake out the stutter and handed the container to Jimin, who carefully took it with a big smile.
Jimin examined it. “This is bigger than the last one. Are some for Chaeyoung?”
She noticed how Minjeong’s cheeks turned to a faint shade of red from the question, and she shook her head, pointing at another small container on the counter. “That’s for Chaeyoung and her girlfriend.”
“So…” Jimin raised both eyebrows, trying her best to hide her blush as well. She lifted the container, unable to keep her smile in. “All of these are mine?”
Minjeong immediately looked away and nodded. “So, you won’t have to be a big meanie to the others and enjoy your share.”
Jimin was suddenly blushing, but she tried to shake it off by nodding at Minjeong, hopefully she could play it cool even if this alone could melt her.
“Thank you,” she managed to say, stopping herself from moving and just dominantly kept eye contact with Minjeong.
She smirked at how Minjeong was starting to turn even more red, brows furrowing at her, and the younger woman was glaring at her. It was so cute.
Jimin honestly wanted to kiss her. But she was resisting it. Again.
Before Jimin could say anything more to make Minjeong flushed, the younger woman rushed to the counter and grabbed a cookie, shoving it gently into Jimin’s mouth.
“Eat. Don’t talk, please.”
And Jimin agreed happily.
They spent the afternoon together. Jimin ate cookies happily, Minjeong served them coffee while they hung out in her kitchen, talking and getting to know each other again.
It was amazing, Jimin had to admit. Maybe the next time she wanted to spend her Sunday afternoon with someone, she should gather more courage to just message Minjeong.
