The morning came and Mina woke up in Sana’s bed. Her roommate insisted that she slept with someone for the night, still worried that the unfortunate events from the night before were still lingering in her and it would be difficult if Mina woke up with nightmares and no one would be there to console her. After a few arguments and a lot of cute expressions from Sana, Mina gave in and passed out the moment her head hit the pillows.
At least it was already the weekend and Mina didn’t have to worry about going to work that day. She just wished she could have slept in, Sana did have the comfiest bed compared to hers.
She rubbed off the sleep from her eyes, looking at Sana’s sleeping body right next to her. Which was a relief to her since her best friend had been sleep walking a lot since they roomed with each other in college. Mina tried to shuffle from her spot on the bed but felt another person next to her. It seemed that Sana and Momo decided to make a therapeutic sandwich and made sure Mina was in the middle of them. She smiled at the sight, Momo didn’t have to stay the night for her, knowing that her nurse friend had another shift that day.
Mina tried to slip away from the comfort of the bed, and noticed that Nayeon wasn’t inside the room, since there was an empty mattress on the floor by the end of the bed. She quietly exited the room and walked into their living area. But there was still no sign of Nayeon.
Maybe the older friend decided to have smoke a cigarette outside the building; Momo did mention it was her morning ritual. A really unhealthy one. Mina could only shrug at the thought and started padding her way to her bedroom, entering her bathroom to wash up.
When she finally checked her phone, it was flooded with messages and missed calls from her three friends and one message from her credit card company, which she needed to deal with once she was done with breakfast. Luckily, Sana didn’t message her parents. Thinking that their other friends were the safest people to contact when Mina was missing that night. Sana told her that if she hadn’t come back that night, then she would have called them.
Thank you to Son Chaeyoung, she guessed. She shook her head as if trying to shoo away her thoughts. It was too early to think about the blonde right now. Especially after the topic last night.
She looked at herself in the mirror and noticed the dark circles under her eyes, seeing how they were slightly swollen from all the crying she did. But she couldn’t deny the blush on her cheeks. Then that was when her memories of last night flashed in her head. Suddenly she dipped her head in the sink and turned on the water, maybe the cold could help her calm down.
“So… I hate to break the moment, but my curiosity is killing me,” Nayeon started, her head leaning onto Mina’s knee as she looked up at everyone. “The tall one was kinda cute, huh?”
Mina immediately gave an exasperated sigh. “Nayeon, can we not?”
“What? I was just curious,” she shrugged, fixing the thick rimmed glasses on her face. “Suits are hot.”
Sana peeked at Mina as well, then turned to Nayeon. “Was she really cute?”
Nayeon’s ears perked, and she turned to face her bubbly friend. “Yeah, tall, blonde hair and in a suit. Totally my type and the driver was pretty cute too.”
“Damn, I wish I could have seen them,” Sana responded. Mina could only roll her eyes at her friend’s exchange and leaned back at Momo. At least she was smart enough to not engage in their dumb conversation—
“We could Google search the Dong Sok and see what they really do. Hopefully, there are more photos of the members, maybe we can even find the leader since Mina hasn’t shared much about him,” Momo suddenly said while fishing her phone out of her pocket.
Mina shoved both her friends out of her embrace and stood up. “Glad to know everyone is back to normal. I’m going to bed!”
Sana grabbed her hands and brought her in for a tight squeeze. “I’m sorry! It’s not really responsible to just ignore what happened to you, we’re not doing that,” Sana whined, hands wrapped around Mina’s waist and looked up at her with a very big pout.
“I know. I’m trying to joke around too,” Mina said caressing Sana’s hair. She couldn’t resist this person, as much as she wanted to. But only years of friendship could make her be tolerant with these actions.
After spending some time going through articles and photos, they couldn’t find any photo of Chaeyoung. Nayeon then sat on the couch on Mina’s spot and looked at her. “So, can you finally tell us what the leader looks like?”
Sana squeezed her tighter. “Yeah! Is he really the one I read in that article?”
Mina felt like she had to surrender since her friends were really not going to let this one go. “Fine!” She sighed and looked down at Sana. “So, the son wasn’t really a son. Her last name is Son though.”
Sana blinked. “Her? So… the leader is a woman?”
Her memories of Chaeyoung in that dark room were filling her mind all of a sudden, the blonde slicked back hair, the mole on the bottom of her lip, her exposed torso—she shook her head immediately before her mind went haywire again.
“A-apparently so,” Mina said, trying to look somewhere else. Her expression changed. “But she was so scary. She’s smaller compared to the rest, but she had this unspeakable aura and it felt like I was going to be eaten alive.”
“Well, at least that part of the article was right,” Sana said, slowly letting go of Mina and then sank back into the couch.
“But she didn’t hurt you, right?” Momo asked.
Mina shook her head again. “No, actually. She was scolding everyone; saying that women or civilians aren’t allowed to get hurt or something. Even Jeongyeon said that no one there gets harmed unless they deserve it.”
“Oh, well of course, you weren’t even supposed to be involved with them in the first place,” Momo answered back and crossed her arms on her chest. “I think I’m more surprised that there are women in the mafia.”
Nayeon shrugged. “Maybe they’ve proven themselves worthy of being there. I mean—the leader is apparently a woman after all.”
“Small but dangerous,” Sana chimed in. “Sounds sexy to me.”
“Was Jeongyeon the tall blondie?” Nayeon added immediately, her big bunny teeth showing with her smile, making Mina roll her eyes again.
“Yes. That was Jeongyeon.”
Nayeon hummed in excitement. “I wonder if we’ll get to see her and the cute driver again.”
“How about leaving some for the rest of the single gay people?” Sana scoffed at Nayeon, who in return, just stuck her tongue out playfully.
“So…” Momo interrupted, rolling her eyes at Nayeon and Sana. She faced Mina. “Do you also think that this leader is cute just like her members?”
“W-what?” was all she could utter, she was hoping no one would bring this up. She waved her hand. “I don’t know. In terms of height? I guess she’s cute?”
“We mean, does she want us to cuddle her and feed her grapes or does she want us to bend over and call her daddy?”
Mina suddenly became flushed. The back tattoo was visible in her mind now, the flexed muscles and the sultry look on her face— “Nayeon!” Mina almost shouted, trying to hide the blush. “Can you not?!”
“The second one, I guess,” Momo said, with a shit eating grin on her face.
Mina splashed water on her face for the fourth time and wiped it off with a small towel hanging on the side of her mirror. It was crazy, she couldn’t believe that even after what happened, her friends still had the energy to talk about something ridiculous like that.
Once she stepped out of the bathroom, she heard some shuffling from outside. She exited her bedroom and was surprised to see Momo awake, reaching the little window of their apartment, peeking through it. Her expression couldn’t be read, and it made Mina concerned.
“Momo?” Mina called from her spot, closing the door behind her and she approached her friend. “What’s wrong?”
Momo turned to look at her and pried herself from the window, rushing to Mina. “Wear a bra.”
“What?” She immediately brought her hands to her chest.
“Right now!”
Mina wasn’t sure what was happening, but she complied. She rushed back to her room, hurriedly wore her bra and changed to a less revealing shirt then quickly stepped back out. She spot Momo and Sana peeking through the window again and once they heard Mina come out of her room, they both shot a look at her, and Sana rushed over to her this time.
Maybe it was the police?
“I think someone must be really sorry for last night,” she said in a whisper, making Mina’s brows furrow.
She walked over to the entrance and opened the door slowly. She let out a gasp when she saw Chaeyoung standing there, holding flowers and a fruit basket.
“Good morning, Miss Mina,” she greeted with a smile, her dimple showing, and it made Mina’s heart beat suddenly. In seconds, Chaeyoung’s confidence wavered once Mina and two other figures were in front of her and started lifting the items in her hands. “Uh… just wanted to give a gift as an apology for last night.”
