“Hey! HEY!!!”
You’re used to mornings.
To yawning through every last alarm you’ve set for yourself. To the cadence of the city’s heartbeat pulsing throughout the neighborhood in the early hours. To the certainty of the dawn that’s followed by the certainty of the rising sun.
What you aren’t used to is seeing your fiancée perched atop you, smiling down at you with her fluffy cheeks in tow, bouncing up and down on you in little motions at two o’ three in the afternoon.
What you aren’t used to is waking up next to Naoi Rei.
Well, you’re sort of used to it. Every day actually since you’ve moved in together. But today’s different.
“Good morning, sleepyhead,” she greets you, and you can tell from how deadpan it sounds towards the end there that she’s been rehearsing that line for hours now. “I was thinking of waking you up with a little something something, but I thought you’d be too drained from last night.”
Her last words send a ringing through your skull, and suddenly, it all comes crashing down at once.
The pang of anxiety that constricts in your throat as you walk her down the late night streets of Gangnam. The chills down your spine as your tipsy then-girlfriend spins around the playground while still in her heels. Practicing the speech day-in and day-out even to the point of going through it one last time during dinner. The disbelief, the fall to your knee, and the tears that followed. The weight of your combined bodies as you melded into one.
When your mind finally settles on her again, Rei’s grinning widely at you, raising both brows as if to hint at something. “So that happened.”
You don’t want to, but you have to ask. “Did we …?”
She snorts. “All night last night, yeah. You didn’t give me a break at all.”
Rei rolls onto her side, and you notice she’s wearing her adorable little pajamas. She’s got the matching pink set this time, and so-help-you your eyes are quick to drift towards how terribly it hides her chest. “What? Did you really want that something something? I mean, I still can, but ya, aren’t you getting a little greedy, tubby?”
You fluff the sheets and throw them over you both now. You’re still naked, but she welcomes you nonetheless, burrowing herself in all her favorite spots across your body. Rei manages to peck your chest, then the base of your neck, then your chin, before settling on your lips. “There, all done!”
You chuckle and peck her on her forehead, then her cheeks, then her chin, before settling on her lips as well. “Good morning, tubster,”
Your eyes burn holes into her crescent eyelids as you stare at her blushing face upon realizing what this meant.
You had sex for the the first time with your now-fiancée, Naoi Rei.
You think back. Back to where it all began. From before last night. From before any of this.
You and Rei have been dating for years now. You have a steady thing going. For the past year or two, you’ve been living together and it’s been a blast. It’s one thing to be dating a woman like her, but it’s another to come home to her. Every. Single. Day. You get kisses in the morning along with your lunch before you both head to work. You get to spend lazy days on the couch with her watching her favorite shows while she feeds you popcorn on her lap. You get to see her first thing in the morning and last thing every night before bed. You’re with her at every waking moment, at every hour of every day, at every instance of your life. And yet, you still can’t get enough of her. And before you knew it, you’re caught in this mischievous maelstrom that is Naoi Rei.
And now you’re here. In bed with her. Not having remembered a single damn thing about your first night as a newly engaged couple.
But your body seems to remember as it stirs beneath the sheets.
Neither of you have said a word since the good morning kisses. But how can you? The moment you so much as even breathe you’re immediately met with her persistent presence by your side. The round and soft of her body as she bunches up closer to you, digging against your person. The tufts of her bangs that sprawl across her forehead that she loves blowing up against. The crinkle of her nose, the twinkle of her eyes, the tenderness of her smile whenever she’s just being her silly little self.
“You don’t remember, do you?”
She beats you to the punch. But that doesn’t mean you can’t punch back. “Well, sorry if I can’t remember a single thing, tubs. You drained me.”
Rei rolls her eyes and huffs against your neck. “Does that mean I wasn’t good?”
“Ya, none of that now,” you reassure her, pinching her squishy cheek. “It’s just … Wow. Just wow. Haven’t felt that relieved in forever.”
“Yeah? I could tell you’ve been pent up all week, tubby. I’m glad you’re breathing easier now.”
“All month is more like it. If they give me another fucking midyear load, I’m going to lose it,” you groan, but not without tucking her closer to you and resting your head on hers. “It’s already past lunch. Have you eaten? Want to get something to eat?”
“Mmm, not yet. Just want to stay here like this,” she cooes, eyes closed, nuzzling against your neck. She sniffs your collarbone and nods in approval. “You’re always so warm. Mhmm.”
Chuckling, you sigh and nod. “Alright then. Maybe a bit longer.”
And it’s just so familiar. Being with her like this.
Once the time for remaining idle has passed, you help yourself up and get dressed. “What are you craving today, tubs? Seafood boil? Sushi platter?”
She purses her lips and pouts at you. “Ehh? It’s a Sunday. We’re cooking together!”
It’s your turn to pout. “Aw damn it, and here I thought I could have something to drink with—OUCH! What the fuck was that for?”
Retrieving her fingers post-pinching, she shakes her head. “No drinking, remember? And you’re going to help me cook, mister. To the kitchen!”
“Can’t we just order—OUCH OUCH. Ok, Jesus fuck, to the kitchen it is, alright?”
You help her out as best as you can.
While you wash the ingredients and slice up whatever Rei needs you to, she’s the one taking full control of the cooking. She’s the better cook between the both of you, so you trust her with it. Your other responsibilities include tasting the sauce once it simmers, fanning her when she gets hot and sweaty, and washing everything used once she’s done with it.
And it’s familiar. All of this is like second nature to the both of you.
The way you pass her what she needs before she can even say a word. The way you’re quick to swat that damn fucking flying cockroach that came out of nowhere before she can scream and throw cooking oil at you. The way you remind her of the time so she doesn’t have to get her phone out and make a mess on her screen just to keep track of things.
And you wouldn’t have it any other way.
“Ya, you big baby. Why are you always so clingy when we’re at the kitchen?” Rei wonders as she leans towards your perching head on her shoulder. You’ve got your arms wrapped around her from behind as you kiss her temple. “I’m almost done. So will you give me some space?”
“I’m always clingy whenever I’m with you, tubs. Getting married won’t change that.” You punctuate your sentence with a slap of her ass and she just rolls her eyes at you.
Once your meal’s been plated, you take your plates to the couch and sit next to each other. Rei’s feet fly up towards your lap and you place your plate down on her shins as you both get comfortable. You throw on some Sailor Moon R and watch the episode you stopped at from last night.
She feeds you some of hers without needing to look your way, and you wipe the dribbled sauce from her lips with the napkin you snatched from the kitchen counter knowing full well this would happen.
And you both just chill like this for the rest of the afternoon.
