Tzuyu didn’t have time to change into anything decent. So she was on the bed, half naked and listening to Sana talk as she drove back to her apartment.
“We’re the love birds sleeping when you came home?” Sana asked as she parked her car.
Tzuyu chuckled. “Yeah, it was quiet when I did. Guess they tired themselves out.”
Sana couldn’t stop giggling over the phone. “I bet you 100 yen that Mina won’t be able to walk the next day.”
Tzuyu spat out a laugh. “Really now? Okay, I bet that it’ll last for more than two days.”
“Oh wow, are you that confident about Chaeyoung’s ability to fuck my friend that much?” Sana asked in an amused tone. It was borderline teasing and Tzuyu was definitely enjoying it.
She turned to her side and held the phone close to her ear. Doing a shrug, as if Sana was there to see it. “I just know she’s a little perv who used to have boners all the time.” She couldn’t help but laugh at some memories. “Plus, Mina is a beautiful woman and her girlfriend as well. So I would understand why Chaeng would go all out like a rabbit in heat.”
Sana started laughing out loud and it sounded so beautiful in Tzuyu’s ears. She was smiling the whole time as she listened to the Japanese girl try to calm down. “Oh my god. That’s so cute, was Chaeyoung really like that before?”
“Yeah. I don’t know if anyone told you; but Chaeng had this bad habit of always hooking up with girls that were either emotionally unavailable or girls that are but are already taken.”
Sana gasped. “Oh no, no one told me about that.”
Tzuyu sighed. “Chaeng used to be fuck buddies with this one girl and we all knew she was already in love with her but the girl had a long term boyfriend.” She then laid again on her back and stared at the ceiling. “We told Chaeng to stop seeing her but it was obvious that she didn’t want to listen.”
“What happened after?”
“The girl got engaged. They saw each other less and Chaeyoung decided to stop it. But she used sex and work as a way to cope.” The memories of Chaeyoung looking like a zombie for days were clear in her mind. “But eventually she got over the girl. A year of working and not getting laid. Then she got the promotion, was sent to Japan and met the love of her life.”
If only she could see Sana because she knew that made her smile. “Wow, I really didn’t know all of this.”
“I hope you won’t think that Chaeng is bad for Mina. She just made horrible decisions before.”
“I know. In fact, I think that they’re both good for each other,” Sana said, Tzuyu could hear a beep on the other line and a door opening. Maybe she was finally in her apartment.
“I think so too,” Tzuyu said with a smile. “Are you home?”
Suddenly there was a loud thud and she could hear some items drop on the floor. “Fuck.”
“You okay?”
She giggled again. More than usual. “I bumped into the table. It hurts.”
“Aren’t you clumsy?” she teased.
“I’m not always clumsy,” Sana tried to say seriously. “Don’t ask Mina. She’ll just say I’m a walking bulldozer.”
It was probably the alcohol mixed into her system. But she wanted to be dangerously playful. “You’re a pretty one anyway.”
There was silence, and then Tzuyu could hear the door open. “Well, I am not just a pretty face, Chou Tzuyu.”
“So you admit that you’re a walking bulldozer?”
Sana faked offense. “Wow, I can’t believe you just said that.”
Tzuyu smirked. She was enjoying this too much. “Maybe I did.”
“Hold on,” she suddenly said and then Tzuyu could hear little footsteps padding around a carpeted floor. She heard drawers being opened and then another door and after a small moment of silence, she heard footsteps again and a cute huff. “Hi.”
“Hi,” Tzuyu said in a tired voice.
“Are you sleepy?”
Tzuyu thought about it. Tt was definitely because of the alcohol and all the other things they did that night. But she didn’t want to say goodbye just yet. “No, not really.”
She hummed, shifting herself on her bed. “Me neither.” Tzuyu could hear her breathing and it felt relaxing. “I really like talking to you, you know.”
Her breath hitched, she wasn’t expecting her to say that. “Me too,” she responded, close to a whisper. Then a thought came to her. “Do you say this to a lot of people when they’re on the phone with you?”
Sana laughed. “It could also be the alcohol. But I don’t usually talk to just anyone on the phone, in the middle of the night while I’m drunk.”
Tzuyu raised a brow. “Really? So I’m one of the few?”
“You’re probably the only one in a long time,” she said, there was no hint of playfulness and that made Tzuyu panic a bit.
“Oh,” She breathed out. “Guess I’m that interesting to you then.”
“Yeah. Yeah you really are.”
“You’re definitely drunk.”
“And you’re definitely cute,” Sana said with a giggle. “A cute, tall, Taiwanese who is getting over a break up.”
And that was what made Tzuyu snap out of their little flirty bubble. Tzuyu’s sight started to concentrate on the little cracks on the ceiling and then Se-Ri’s face appeared in her mind.
This was why she didn’t want to do this with Sana. She knew, she knew how bad of an idea this was. They shouldn’t be flirting, or being on a phone call or even be this honest to each other.
Tzuyu made her agree that they were just friends and she was starting to hate herself as to why she was breaking her own rule by flirting with Sana.
What a mess.
“It’s okay Tzuyu. You don’t have to worry about it,” Sana suddenly said, her voice was getting softer. “I know my place.”
“I’m sorry.” Then she shifted on her bed, trying to shake off the uncomfortable feeling she had in her chest. But she couldn’t stop it. “I don’t want you to leave though.”
“Leave you?”
“I don’t know. I don’t want you to think you can’t be yourself when you’re around me.” She let out a deep sigh, trying her best to be sober enough to say the right words. “I like having you around and if I’m being completely honest, I’ve never had this much fun in such a long time. I’m very thankful for you.”
Sana let out a small breath and then giggled again. “I’m glad you think that way. I like being around you too and I wish I can help take all the pain away.”
“You’re helping, that’s for sure.”
