The Eleventh Letter From Her

July 13, 1995

Dear Nayeon, 

Yeah, that’s true. We’d be great at helping out with kids. Babies are amazing. Just not the part where they poop and pee everywhere. You know that sometimes they hit you. It’s scary. 

I agree with that. Very much. Beauty shouldn’t really be defined by something so extravagant, right? A pretty face may be a pretty face, but what about their soul? I don’t think anyone would ever bother finding out when they’re so fixated on something shallow. I don’t know, I could be rambling. But I get what you mean, in my head I know what you’re trying to say. I just wished I could put it into words. Like you. If I do, I’ll figure it out and let you know. 

I think with a little practice and interest, you could be one. That would be impressive and then you’re free to send me your work because I would be willing to reach each word, phrase and stanza. Kind of like writing lyrics to a song and the only thing I have to do is listen to it. Something like that. 

Once I figure out this whole phone thing, maybe I can send you an SMS. But I also don’t know how, do I need to get your number? I don’t think I can easily send a text from here to there. I guess we can just stick to our letters for now. It’s way better anyway, right?

Well, that has also happened to me before. Very bizarre, if you ask me. How they assumed I was interested that way when I just wanted to be friendly. Cause who doesn’t deserve to be treated with kindness? The world is mysterious and it’s filled with people like that. Those who like to assume. But at the same time, it’s not always filled with horrible people. I’m rambling again. 

But yeah, maybe if I find someone I feel something with, maybe I’ll know my answer then. Because I really just want to make friends and strengthen my bonds with the people I love. But finding a relationship is… something too serendipitous. I wouldn't know unless it finds me, you know?

Okay, we don’t have to talk about him. Only when you want to. I’ll respect that.

Yeah, you really did so much for Bruce. And I’m sure he’s so lucky to have you because you didn’t give up on him. He sounds like a treat though! I wonder if he’ll bark if I come over to visit? I hope not. I want to be friends with him and maybe walk him around as well. Since he’s old, he won’t be strong enough to pull me around. Right?

I understand your worries. But that’s how life is. And I wish I could say something more comforting. But I remember this movie I watched and it reminded me of it. That all dogs go to heaven. Which I think is true because they could never do you wrong. They are angels, and they could be yours too, following you around and making sure you’re loved and safe. Bruce is an angel. And he’s your angel. I hope he’ll live longer than expected. 

You somewhat have that image correct. We did go to the playground a lot. But most of the time Tzuyu and I have to worry if Chaeyoung was going to scrape her knee again because she tends to get rowdy and energetic. Tzuyu is ironically the youngest out of us, but she takes care of us more than we do for her. It’s really funny. Also, yeah, Chaeyoung is in Seoul. She’s a pastry chef, working along with another friend of ours. If you want, you can check it out? Their bakery is called PB Yoo Bakery. It’s near the metro, a few steps away from the mall. It’s tasty, you won’t regret it.

Momo sounds fun to be with and she sounds like a great friend. I’m glad that she’s there for you. What do you guys do? If that’s okay to ask. I’ve always wondered what your work is. 

Man, you’re making me wish I can take the next flight back to Seoul. I really want to meet you as well. Maybe I won’t have to wait for days until I get your letter. I can just go to your house, play with Bruce and then we could talk and have coffee. You like coffee? I know a bunch of coffee places we could try?

I think Chaeyoung and Tzuyu would like you. I think I’d like Momo too! 

I’m so excited. 

Maybe someday, we can plan it out. Or I’ll just surprise you. I know where you live.
