Minjeong was on her desk that afternoon. She didn’t want to get out nor go shopping because she knew that basically everywhere was busy with people who were doing last minute shopping for the holiday.
But she didn’t need to do that anyway, since she already sent gifts to her mom after telling her that she couldn’t go home. Her mother understood. Well… she believed in Minjeong’s excuses. It wasn’t like Minjeong didn’t want to see her, she just needed to stay a little longer for something that may or may not happen.
Plus, she knew her friends had plans for the holidays as well. Yizhuo could be spending it with Aeri, Yeji was already out of town with Ryujin and Lia was spending it with relatives that flew there. Minjeong didn’t want to bother them. And she was fine with being alone.
Maybe it was a good thing. She could spend the time thinking about everything that had happened and could get herself back on track. Despite Jimin not being in the picture.
Well, not yet. She would like to believe.
Her eyes were taken away from her work when she saw her phone lit up and her brother’s name was on the screen.
That was odd. He barely called.
She picked it up.
“How’s my favorite dork?” he asked immediately before she said anything.
Typical.
She rolled her eyes. “Can you be a normal brother for once?”
“Then that wouldn’t be me, now wouldn’t it?” Mingyu said after a light chuckle.
“Whatever,” she muttered. Then she leaned back on her chair, holding the phone closer to her ear. “Okay, what do you want?”
“Wow, good to know my baby sister misses me then,” he teased after a scoff. Then he cleared his throat. “Anyway, I’m calling because I wanted to know what your plans are for Christmas.”
“Study,” she answered him immediately. “Work,” she added monotonously and then sighed. “Study again.”
“Seriously?” he asked, a bit flabbergasted. “Don’t they give you breaks?”
Minjeong pursed her lips. “They do, but I just have so much to finish. Then there’s work as well, if I didn’t mention it.” She was actually lying, but she didn’t want to tell him the real reason why she didn’t want to go home yet. “I don’t think I’ll be able to go home to see mom until the New Year. I already told her,” she explained. Then she got curious. “What about you?”
“Well, I was thinking of going home when you will.”
Her brows shot up. “Really?”
“Yeah! I’m actually in town and I was wondering if I could drop by tomorrow to see you,” he said happily. “You know, just us. Sibling time during Christmas. What do you think?”
She couldn’t help but smile, finally feeling excited for something. She was already thinking of what to make him when he came over. “That sounds nice actually. You’re always welcome to come by.”
“Is whatshisface still in the picture?”
Minjeong paused, but then she remembered Yeji saying the same thing. She shook her head. “Why does everyone call him that?” she asked after a giggle. “And no, we broke up a long time ago, remember?”
“Right right. Okay, good. Cause I honestly think he’s a pussy ass bitch.”
“Such a potty mouth, oppa.”
He huffed. “It’s true! I’m just glad I can finally tell you that.”
She raised a brow. “Didn’t you like him?”
“What? No?”
She wasn’t convinced. “I clearly recall you having the time of your life talking to him about basketball.”
Then he sighed. “Look, I was only nice to him because mom and dad liked him. And you were happy with him.” There was a crackling noise on his end and then he cleared his throat, finally talking to her seriously. “But if I’m really being honest, I never liked him. Looked like he didn’t have a backbone and he happily proved that to me when he broke up with you,” he explained. But he didn’t tease her as usual. Which she appreciated. “So the entire time during your relationship with him, I behaved. For you.”
Minjeong couldn’t help but smile. She always was amused with how her brother showed love and support. “Wow, that’s new coming from you,” she said, teasing him this time.
“Believe it baby girl,” he said after a chuckle. “But…” he trailed.
“But?”
“Is there someone new?”
She almost choked at that. But she didn’t want to immediately tell him that she was madly in love with her neighbor and that she was missing her dearly.
That would drag their phone call longer and she really preferred to tell him about these things in person. So she could stop him physically if he decided to be a pain in the ass about it.
And she knew that talking about Jimin was going to make her vulnerable and she didn’t really want to do that over the phone.
“I’ll tell you tomorrow,” she said, decisively.
“What?”
She giggled. “Bye, oppa. See you tomorrow.”
“Wait, hold up—”
“Love you.”
Then she hung up the phone.
She could always try to explain herself again through text. Plus, the thought of Jimin was starting to overwhelm her again and she really didn’t want to cry over the phone when Mingyu had no idea what was going on.
He was going to ask too many questions and could potentially misunderstand the situation. So she was glad that she decided to hang up before anything spilled out.
Her phone was buzzing excessively and to no surprise, it was Mingyu. But she ignored it for now.
Minjeong placed her phone back down on her table and sighed.
It was probably day twenty-five of her missing Jimin so much. Not that she was counting the days. But she was. Because she was still disheartened that she still wasn’t able to see Jimin. But she was as patient as always. She knew that she needed to wait until Jimin was ready.
She just thought it was silly that she purposely found reasons to stay in Seoul for Christmas in hopes that she would be able to see Jimin. Or at the very least give her cookies for Christmas. If Jimin was still not ready, then the usual cookie delivery should be enough again.
Actually, Minjeong did buy her a gift. That, surprisingly, wasn't cookie nor ice cream related. But a part of her would rather give that gift to Jimin personally. It only felt right if she did.
