Minjeong felt like the breath in her lungs were taken away when she finally got to the lobby and she saw Jimin standing by the police car, patiently waiting for her.
Her heart shouldn’t be beating like this. But it was. And for all the good reasons, really.
If only there weren’t so many people looking at Jimin. But Jimin was looking at her with the biggest, dopiest smile and Minjeong couldn’t help but melt at the sight. She took a deep breath and walked towards the police officer.
Jimin smiled even wider, eyes disappearing into crescents. “Hi,” she greeted and then handed Minjeong the plastic bag she was holding. “I got you something from the Japanese place you liked.”
Minjeong blushed. How could she remember that? “Jimin, god,” she breathed out. Looking up at the officer, albeit shyly. “Thank you,” she said as she clutched the plastic tightly in her hands.
She honestly wished she could keep Jimin a little longer. Especially when she was looking extremely cute with the shy smile that she was wearing on her face, with her hands tucked inside her pockets and the police uniform—
For some reason, she felt her heart shoot up to her throat when she suddenly remembered what she had dreamed about the night before. Or morning. She wasn’t sure. But it was her dream. She remembered her dream and she couldn’t stop herself from blushing furiously.
The warmth shot up from her neck, her cheeks and then her ears.
Jimin looked exactly like this in her dream.
Then the way she was looking at her. The way she said her name.
Minjeong felt her breath hitch when Jimin leaned forward towards her as she was saying something, but Minjeong had absolutely no idea what she said.
The sounds of people murmuring behind them was what finally got Minjeong to snap out of it and focus on Jimin.
Her roommate let out a shaky breath and rubbed the back of her neck with her hand. “Anyway, I think I should go back, they only gave me a couple of minutes to go out.”
Minjeong finally nodded and cleared her throat. “Okay, thank you so much again,” she tried to say normally. Worried that Jimin was going to lean down and kiss her.
But she knew that wasn’t going to happen. Even if she wanted it to. But not here. Not when there were too many people watching them. Why were her classmates here?
Mindlessly, she walked Jimin towards the driver’s side of the police car and Jimin opened the door, hopping right in.
Once the car started, Jimin lowered the window and smiled at her. “Drive safe,” Minjeong said as she gave a small wave to Jimin.
She smiled. “I’ll text you?” she asked and Minjeong immediately nodded her head.
“Sure,” she answered back, trying not to sound too excited about it. But Minjeong knew that once Jimin left her school, she was going to text her immediately and thank her again. Maybe a good three or four more times because she honestly didn’t expect Jimin to do this.
It could be because she did the same when Jimin was feeling down.
Well, it wasn’t like she was going to complain anyway. This was a good exchange. It was more than enough. Despite her feeling extremely flushed at the memory of that bizarre dream she had, she really loved it. She appreciated Jimin.
Minjeong started walking back inside the lobby once Jimin’s car was out of sight. And to no surprise, a bunch of her classmates were already walking up to her, eager to find out what happened.
“Well if only I knew that the SMPA had free deliveries I would have called them already,” her classmate, Yuri said monotonously. But then her demeanor shifted and jumped a bit, trying her best to not squeal. “But Minjeong you’re so lucky! I’m so jealous!”
Chaewon, her other classmate, butted in and gushed, flinging her arms around. “She was like ‘Hi I’m looking for a Kim Minjeong?’ and I’m like what about me? I’m a Kim too! I’ve been naughty, Miss officer!”
Minjeong and Yuri immediately winced at what she said.
She threw her hands over her face, heavily embarrassed by what was happening. “Chaewon! Oh my god!”
Chaewon held her shoulder gently but started shaking her. “Oh my god, Jeongie, if you guys don’t work out, please tell her to arrest me instead.”
“Can you not?!”
Yeji then grabbed Minjeong away and waved them off. “Alright guys, that’s enough. Let’s go back to class.”
With that, everyone hesitantly agreed and dispersed. Except for Chaewon, she still was gushing about Jimin and Minjeong could hear everything. She wanted to feel jealous, but she knew better than to. It was silly. And Minjeong was very much aware that anyone could be enthralled by Jimin’s looks.
She just wished she could stop Chaewon from talking about Jimin like that.
“God, I keep forgetting that Chaewon could get like that when she meets a pretty girl,” Lia muttered as the three of them ascended the stairs.
Minjeong sighed. “Well, I just hope they didn’t cause a ruckus when Jimin talked to them.”
The moment they reached the landing of their floor, the three walked to their classroom and at the corner of her eye, she felt herself grow a bit weary when she saw two familiar men by the windows.
They were Jeno’s friends that were also studying law in that school. She completely forgot that they went to school here as well. Minhyung and Renjun were the only smart ones in their group of friends, and she recalled that they mentioned they were going to law school with Minjeong as well.
But ever since the breakup, Minjeong never bothered looking for them since there was no more reason to. She just didn’t like that she finally got to see them after they witnessed Jimin visiting her.
One of them snickered. “Either that was a stick up, or Minjeong just made a big upgrade.”
Great, they were talking about her.
“It’s an upgrade, for sure.”
“We should tell Jeno.”
“Yeah, damn he fucked up.”
She wanted to scoff. Why should they? What was he going to do?
There were a lot of things Minjeong disliked in this world and one of them was gossiping and people who weren’t capable of minding their own business. These two may be the smartest in their group, they definitely weren’t that smart either.
Yeji nudged her, opening the door to the classroom. “Ignore them,” she whispered, giving Minjeong a comforting smile.
She forced herself to smile back and nodded. “I know.”
Because of Jimin visiting her at school, for some ungodly reason, everyone in her class knew about what happened, and the entire law department wouldn’t stop talking about her and Jimin. Calling her silly names like ‘SMPA delivery services’ and ‘Minjeong’s hot office girlfriend’.
It was utterly ridiculous, and she honestly wished she could ask the floor to eat her whole at that moment.
Jimin just had to approach one of her classmates to ask where she was, that probably started the ruckus and he false rumors. Especially that it was Chaewon, and she was known to be unable to keep her mouth shut when she got overly excited about something.
And it wasn’t like Minjeong thought that Chaewon was a bad person, and she didn’t dislike the idea of Jimin being her girlfriend, but she didn’t want it to happen that way. It felt inappropriate.
What would Jimin say if she knew about this? She probably did it as a friendly gesture and Minjeong didn’t want to get ahead of herself.
