A year after
The two were laying down next to each other, staring at the ceiling. Their wedding was in a few days. Because of Nayeon’s hectic schedules and the fact that they wanted a somewhat long engagement, they decided to get married a year after the two proposed to each other.
Nayeon never really imagined that she would be able to get as far as this. She honestly thought it would never happen because of how much she fucked up between them due to her poor time management and her unrecognized dedication to her job.
But after all of that, she was proud to say that she did make the effort to make that change. Nayeon spent much more time with Dahyun, even if the latter had always said it was fine. But Nayeon knew that this was just how Dahyun was and she needed to prove to herself and to her partner that she couldn’t keep being okay with everything when it was obvious that something had to change.
So the next thing Nayeon did was to hire another assistant, actually utilizing both of them to help her out even if she wasn't used to it.
Jennie tore her a new asshole when Nayeon told her about what happened during their anniversary. It was odd to see how intense Jennie could be when reminding her about taking breaks or sending a message or two to Dahyun.
Dahyun definitely won her friend’s heart for her to be this supportive. So it was obvious that Jennie was over the moon when she found out that the two were finally getting married.
Momo and Sana had been helping her out with planning the wedding as well. Since Momo was the maid of honor and Sana was one of the bridesmaids that wanted to take Momo’s duties because she loved Nayeon just as much as her other friend did. It was a funny sight to see.
Mina wanted to help but ever since her sister in law passed away, Mina had to move back to Japan to take care of her niece. On top of that, Mina’s girlfriend broke up with her due to the long distance and their friend hasn’t really been the same. Nayeon, Momo and Sana were doing their best to help cheer her up but they knew Mina had always been the type to keep everything in.
But their friend still insisted that she would be able to be in Incheon for the wedding, as long as she was able to fly back to Japan right after. Nayeon didn’t mind, she just wanted Mina to be there for the special occasion, even going as far as buying the ticket for her friend so Mina’s brother has no choice but to let her go.
Everything was all taken care of. Nayeon made sure of that.
And after all the rigorous planning, fighting her nerves and making sure that Dahyun was not changing her mind about the thought of spending their entire lives together, Nayeon was sure that everything was going to go well.
She hoped.
Nayeon was taken out of her thoughts when she felt Dahyun’s hand slither in and gently intertwined their fingers together.
“Penny for your thoughts?” she asked, looking at her. Nayeon locked eyes with Dahyun, not realizing that her fiancé probably noticed her lack of noise.
She took a deep breath in. “You won’t… change your mind, right?” It was her insecurities talking again. But no one could blame her, she still believed that her mistake had changed a lot of things between them.
Dahyun took a moment to understand what she meant, and when she did, her brows furrowed, turned to face Nayeon fully and let out air through her nose.
“Babe, why would I change my mind?”
Nayeon looked away, already feeling tears in her eyes. “I don’t know… what if I revert back to who I was? What if I miss out on another anniversary?” She wiped her eyes and looked at Dahyun. “What if you don’t feel loved anymore?”
She felt Dahyun's thumbs gently caress her cheek and wipe away more tears then fell from her eyes. “Pre-wedding jitters already?” she joked.
“I’m being serious right now!” Nayeon whined, earning a hearty chuckle from Dahyun.
“I know, I know.” Dahyun held her hand in place, still caressing her cheek and smiling at her. “We can’t really tell what happens in the future. But right now, I can say that I feel very much loved by you. I don’t think I’ll ever change my mind.”
Nayeon closed her eyes, hoping Dahyun’s words could assure her but the fear in her heart was stronger. Not that she didn’t believe Dahyun, because she did, her inner saboteur was just winning the battle at the moment.
“Hey.” Dahyun got her attention, cupping her cheeks with both her hands and then giving Nayeon a quick kiss on the lips. “Did you not see the progress you made the past year? You hired an assistant; you booked us tickets to go to Jeju and you actually had time to do hobbies with me and I know how boring my watercolor classes with Tzuyu can be and you hate it.”
Nayeon pouted, wanting another kiss. “No, I don’t.”
“Babe, I can tell. You hate it,” Dahyun chuckled and kissed her again, “But you still did it, you tried your best to be better and I have as well. We’re both growing.” Dahyun smiled again, lips ghosting over hers. “We still have a lot to learn but I think we’re ready to take this step and… I know we’re going to love each other for a very long time.”
Her heart swelled, feeling the love she had for Dahyun overflow inside and she couldn’t imagine living in a world without this woman.
And because she was at a loss for words, Nayeon grabbed Dahyun by the face and pulled her in for another kiss. It was deeper, something that she wanted to also be everlasting.
Maybe this was what she needed; affirming kisses, a gentle hand to anchor her, the beating of a sincere heart. Nayeon knew that she was set up for a decent life because she allowed herself to see the bigger picture.
Dahyun was worth fighting for, and Nayeon would sacrifice anything just to have her. Her work, her time, anything. Just so she could show that Dahyun didn’t have to sell herself short or that she had to adjust.
It always took two to tango. Nayeon was working on herself and Dahyun was too. She was right, there were so many things for them to learn, and much more when things would change from them being girlfriends to actual wives.
Sure, the thought scared her. This was by far, the biggest commitment she could make, and she never imagined herself being at this stage in life. But Dahyun made everything so easy. Making decisions and planning for the future was easier.
Loving was easier.
There was so much for her to discover, things that she wanted to get used to. Like finally taking on duties at home that she was bad at; learning how to cook, doing her own laundry, initiating grocery runs for more than one person.
Trusting other people, learning how to ask for help, learning how to love herself.
Learning how to love her body, enjoy the sensations that another side of love can bring. How Dahyun shocked her when things would slow down during sex, they would take more moments to kiss, caress, taste and feel each other. Nayeon experienced a different kind of high that she didn’t know she could ever have.
She had never had anyone fuck her gently while making her toes curl at the same time.
So even when she slept with many people in the past, she could say she still learned something new from Dahyun. That was when Nayeon knew they were soulmates, compatible and kindred.
Dahyun had been such a big impact on her that sometimes Nayeon couldn’t understand how she could look in the mirror and see someone much better, much brighter, so in love and ready to take on more and more challenges.
Nayeon whispered breathlessly in between kisses. “Dahyun, I love you.”
“I’m gonna pass out,” was the first thing Dahyun whispered when they were waiting by the altar and everyone was already in place, and all that was left was for Nayeon to come out. She realized that her breathing was definitely labored, and the room was starting to spin. “Yep, I’m gonna pass out—“
Chaeyoung immediately rubbed Dahyun’s shoulders. “No, you’re not,” she said firmly, then took a peek at the bride to be. “Do you want me to do the breathing exercise with you… again?”
Tzuyu, Jeongyeon and even Kyulkyung, her best friend from high school, leaned in closer to check on her.
“Do we need to sit her down?” Kyulkyung asked, concern laced in her voice.
Tzuyu leaned in and grabbed her arm. “Yeah, dude, do you want to sit down?”
Dahyun kept hearing their voices and it didn’t help that her heart was beating so fast and so hard that she thought it shot up to her head.
But then she looked at Nayeon’s side and was a bit surprised to see Momo, Sana, Mina and even Jennie giving her encouraging looks and a couple of thumbs up.
“You got this,” Jennie mouthed at her and smiled.
She nodded, taking deep breaths again and leaned towards Chaeyoung. “I think I’m fine. I’m okay.”
Chaeyoung hummed and patted her back. “That’s good.” Her best friend was about to pull back, but she leaned in again, “You didn’t tell me Nayeon had hot friends.”
