Nothing could have been worse than placing a hot-blooded teenager in the driver’s seat of your rickety camper van on a scorching Wednesday summer afternoon.
Going ninety down the coastal highway, Leeseo just passed by a road sign that read ’60 mph’ and just went, “Oops. Missed it~.”
But none of you are clutching the arms of your chairs, the straps of your seatbelts, or each other’s hands—no, you’re enjoying the thrill of it.
It feels fucking fantastic.
Sticking her head out of the sliding window, Gaeul stuck her tongue out and raised her hands in the air, feeling the rushing wind against her face. “Hell yeah! We are alive. WE ARE ALIVE!”
Meanwhile, Yujin is laughing right next to her, holding her by the waist, bent over your lap, elbows digging into your skin. “Ya, unnie! She’s fucking drunk, I’m telling you.”
“Ya think?” Rei groaned before she could burp, smashing her last can of beer against her soft cheek only to toss it out the window on the passenger’s seat. “Ya, Hyunseo-ah, are you sure you’re still ok? Better not be driving tipsy.”
“Unnnnnie~! I’m fine, I’m— HRK —fineeee~,” she hummed, eyes darting anywhere but towards the road as she addressed the chaos unfolding behind her in the back rows. “You should be asking, Wonyoung-unnie. She looks like she might pass out at any second now.”
“Not funny, Leeseo. If I had known—AHHH!” Wonyoung screamed as the car began to wobble left and right from their maknae hitting the stirring wheel with the back of her and the wrong way. “Jesus, Leeseo, focus on the road at least. I knew it was a bad idea giving you my card for all those drinks earlier.”
“Y-You’re only realizing this now?” Liz squeaked as she ducked behind Gaeul’s backrest, shuddering in place. “I-I-I told you drinking on our trip was a bad idea. The others are already a mess when they get tipsy at the dorms—what more now on our roadtrip?”
But you? You remained calm. A smile pulls up against the corners of your mouth as you let out the scene unfolding before you play out as it would—hands behind your back, elbows flared, sighing deeply. This was one hell of a summer vacation alright, and you wouldn’t have it any other way.
Just you and these girls chasing after the setting sun without a lick of fear on your backs.
That is, until Leeseo loses control of the wheel.
That is, until you slam into one of the guardrails that sends the van spiraling like a merry-go-round.
That is, until you find yourselves flying off the edge of the cliff, diving right towards the rocky bluffs beneath you, careening towards the horizon previously adjacent to you.
In this moment, time seemed to almost slow down to a stop.
The opened bag of chips ripped fully and sprays you in the face. The candy pouch someone had tucked away now bursted into the air like confetti. Your heart’s both fluttering and sinking at the same time. And so are your torso, arms, and legs.
As the van hurtles forwards towards your final destination, you have but a millisecond—an opportunity that wrinkled in time—to take one last look at your companions, at these girls.
In your final moments before death, who do you turn to?
