(TEST) From Time to Time: A Time Duration Prompt Event

For this round of prompts, you will receive a randomly assigned prompt in the form of a time duration. You can either choose to receive a time duration from one of the four time categories: 1) Micro; 2) Within a day; 3) Medium to long-term; and 4) Arbitrary. Or, you can Let It Ride™ and receive one from any category.

So how do the prompts work? Here’s an example. Say you receive a prompt that says “While the power is out.” You’ll then write a fic that starts and ends within that time duration. Pretty simple, right? Certain time durations could lead you to write a certain length of fic (shorter time duration == shorter word count, and vice versa). This is why we grouped all the time duration prompts into the four categories. Micro is like, a really short period of time, less than an hour. Within a day is self-explanatory. Medium to long-term can span months or years. Arbitrary time durations are, well, arbitrary. It’s up to you to define the duration.

Note that each of these time durations in every category are not straightforward measurements of time, e.g., one day, one month, one year. We chose to denote the time duration in specific physical moments or experiences to nudge you towards a particular direction. Fluff, smut, angst, sci-fi, fantasy, idolverse, reader x idol, idol x idol, lit fic, anything goes, but please try as much as possible to stick to the time duration!

But wait, there’s more! Let’s say you want to go all rogue-lite and add modifiers or restrictions to your story, and/or more direction to your prompt. You can also choose to receive additional prompts from two categories:

1) Wildcards which contain certain rules by which the author has to follow regarding how time works in their story; and 2) Narrative Direction which contain more defined direction for your story if you feel a bit lost with just the time duration prompt. Note that these additional prompts are also randomly assigned.

You will have three weeks starting from 9th March 2026 to submit your prompt fics (that’s 30th March! deadline now extended to 6th April!). After which we’ll read every entry and provide feedback. We’ll also give feedback for late submissions, but priority will be for those that submitted on time. We also recommend you to write between 1 to 3k words for your submissions.

One final thing: please keep your prompts and the idol you’re writing for a secret until the prompt reveal! Submissions will be collated into a combined google doc for everyone to browse and comment on. We’ll reveal the authors for the submissions sometime after the deadline.
