    Not drawing attention...right?

I haven't uploaded any of my writing in eons, but I'm using this as a way to put myself out there again. I guess- antywho This fic is going to be following the life of my OC Sung Taejin and his rise to fame. He starts off with his friends in college, pursuing a career in music producing. One day, a chance encounter(and a helpful push) shows Taejin that the world has much more in store for him than he thought.

Street dances, a public gathering where locals come together under open skies and city lights to dance to popular songs and enjoy living in the moment. Some people went viral from clips uploaded online, while others stayed in the background, enjoying themselves simply for the love of the game. They unfolded anywhere from crowded plazas to tucked-away streets, drawing in dancers and onlookers alike. It was more than just spontaneous performances. People joined together in groups, sharing an unspoken language and a mutual love for music and dance. Most walked away feeling good about themselves and making new friends. Today would be the start of someone’s journey, one that would go even further beyond.

The weather was absolutely perfect on this day. It was a Friday afternoon, the sun was out, and the wind flowed freely. It wasn’t too hot, nor was it too cold. Three young men, around college-aged, were walking down the street, sharing jokes and laughs like there was no tomorrow. Unbeknownst to them, at least two of them, they were heading straight for a budding street dance.

“Ya! They’re about to start dancing, let’s go watch!” The only boy who noticed started running toward the forming crowd.

“Jiho, wait up!” One of the other boys called out, breaking into a sprint to catch up to him. By the time they made it to the crowd, a group was already dancing to Aespa’s “Armageddon.”

“Taejin, are you going to finally dance this time?” One of them asked.

Both Jiho and his friend looked at the white-haired boy now known as Taejin. Sung Taejin was a 22-year-old college student with white hair, purple eyes, and a taller build at 180 cm. His hair was dyed, presumably, while his eyes were natural. A result of a birth defect. He typically wore contacts to hide them, but he had been convinced by a very charismatic Jiho to let them show today, promising they wouldn’t bring him too much attention. If only the poor soul knew how wrong his friend was.

Taejin looked at the two skeptically as he shrugged in his usual uncertain manner. “I don’t know, guys. I’m pretty sure I’ll just end up embarrassing myself.”

“Okay, but so what?” Jiho interjected. “It won’t be that bad. Plus, if you embarrass yourself, you’ll see you can live past it and have thicker skin for next time! Jisung, help me out here.” He turned to their third friend.

“It won’t be that bad? I could mess up, embarrass myself online, and become an absolute laughingstock.” Taejin looked at them like they were crazy. Sure, he had done K-pop dance challenges with them on TikTok, but this was different. He was just a hopeful music producer who barely got to work on tracks for a few groups. As if the universe was pushing them to make a decision, a new song started to play, and different people began moving toward the center. The song was “Bambola” by TEN.

“Hyung! It’s TEN. We have to. I’ll even go with you.” Jiho looked toward the few people who dared to dance to the song. They were losing their chance to jump in. Just when it seemed like Taejin wasn’t going to join, he felt a smaller hand press against his back, causing him to stumble forward as Jiho dragged him into the center. Taejin looked back to see a shorter girl, hidden beneath a hat and mask, waving at him. Jisung was already rushing to get a good angle for Taejin’s fancam.

Before Taejin could even register what was happening, he joined everyone dancing like it was muscle memory. Except he wasn’t just dancing, he was moving like he owned the choreography. He didn’t try to follow along; he led the group. He carried himself like he had created the choreography himself. The sass in each move, the body control, his sheer presence. It was comparable to real idols. Cameras turned toward him, people watched him… and they loved what they were seeing.

By the time the dance ended, Jiho and Taejin were heading back toward the crowd. “See? I told you! You were going to kill it.” Jiho slapped Taejin on the back. Taejin was still recovering from the shock of what he had just done. It didn’t feel real, like his body had been possessed. Still, a smile was plastered across his face, one that refused to fade. “Wait, where’d Jisung go?” Jiho asked, looking around.

While Jiho searched for their friend, Taejin scanned the area for the mystery girl who had pushed him into the circle. Just as he spotted her walking off with four other masked girls, he was approached by an older man, and they exchanged bows. “It was impressive what you did out there. Not many people have that spark. Have you ever thought about becoming an idol?”

“I- thank you. I’ve… always been in the background when it comes to music. I never really thought about being the one on stage.”

“Well, give it some thought. You have real talent that you’re holding back. Take my card; we’re having auditions tomorrow.” The older man placed a business card into Taejin’s hand before walking away. As he did, Jiho and Jisung returned, saying something to him, but he couldn’t hear them at all. Instead, he stared down at the card in his hand.

    The HYBE business card.

Taejin stared holes into it before Jiho finally snatched it from his hand and showed it to Jisung. “Holy shit-” Jiho and Jisung said in unison.

    “What… the… fuck…” Taejin muttered in disbelief.
