It's her birthday, and you're trying to figure out what she wants.
“What do you want for your birthday?”
Sana lounged lazily on your thighs, scrolling on her phone. She looked up at you now.
“Hmm, I’m not telling.”
Your fingers played with her soft hair.
“Maybe a day of shopping? Or we could museum hop too?”
“That sounds nice, I think,” Sana had already returned her attention to her phone.
You plucked it out of her hands.
“Come on, sunshine. Just one hint?”
“Figure it out yourself!”
Sana stuck out her tongue playfully, before snatching her phone back.
You let out a sigh. There was still a couple of weeks left, surely it was more than enough to figure it out.
“You have to help me Hirai, her birthday is in two days!”
Momo sat opposite you, munching into her avocado toast.
“That’ll cost you more than just lunch, mister.”
You spent the last week and a half trying to plan the perfect day, but all your ideas just didn’t seem right.
Which was how you found yourself in front of Hirai Momo, your self-proclaimed “nemesis”. And also Sana’s best friend.
“Coffee, maybe?”
You tried on your most convincing smile.
Momo cringed, “You look constipated, stop that.”
Sighing, you let your face fall into your hands.
“It’s just, I really really want this day to be perfect for her. And you know how much she values her birthday.”
Momo continued talking, her mouth full of toast.
“That one time where you forgot was probably the best day of my life.”
“Oh, fuck off,” you groaned.
It was the year your family had insisted on taking a Christmas holiday trip. Sightseeing got you so exhausted that you knocked out the moment you got back to the hotel, and slept past midnight. It was days before Sana spoke to you again.
Granted, she apologized after for being so petty, but you swore afterwards to always remember.
“You know, she called me at 12.02,” Momo took a sip of her drink. “She was so mad.”
“Trust me, I know. And hey, I never forgot again after that.”
“If you really want my honest opinion, just go with your heart. I’m sure she’ll be happy with whatever you give her.”
“And here I thought you would give me some ideas,” you sigh. “But thanks, Hirai. That’s 10 buckaroos for the toast and drink, by the way.”
“Fuck you!”
Happy birthday Sana!! I hope you keep on being a radiant beam of sunshine forever! <3
P.s. I’ll pick you up at 10?
P.p.s. I love you ❤️❤️❤️
Awww, thank you so much babe! I love you lots and lots!! Can’t wait to see what you’ve gotten me, hehe
It was a chilly morning, a light breeze in the air.
The lift took you to Sana’s apartment, a small bouquet of roses in your hand. You ran the schedule for today once more in your head, hoping Sana would enjoy what you had planned.
As you exited the lift, you saw Sana already waiting outside her apartment. She had a long coat on, a scarf loosely wrapped round her neck. Her eyes lit up as she saw you.
“Babe!”
“Happy birthday Sana,” you pulled her into an embrace, whispering into her ear. “I got you some flowers.”
She accepted them happily, taking a whiff, “They smell great. Let me just put them inside then we can head out!”
She quickly disappeared back into her apartment with the roses, before bounding back out of the door.
“Come on now,” you took her hand in yours. “Adventure awaits.”
“Adventure?”
“Oh yes.”
“Are there snacks?”
“Mmm, there might be,” you led her towards the lift. “It is your birthday, after all.”
She grinned, squeezing your hand.
“Lead on!”
