The next day:
(Y/Ns POV)
The subtle vibration on my bedside woke me.
The Jr. manager group has been going crazy. I sat up quickly, all tiredness evaporating instantly. I knew that the upper management was to announce what team members are going on the tour today.
Instead, I stared blankly at the link that was being shared.
Dispatch - “JYP Entertainment announces that Twice’s Mina will no longer be joining the group on their first world tour. They are not specifying any details other than it is for health reasons.”
No way…
My hand found my hoodie before I was even fully out of bed, threw on whatever shoes were closest. I was down the hall by the time the door softly clicked shut.
(back at the JYP offices)
I softly knock at Colossus-nim’s office door, it takes all my willpower to not break it down.
“Come in!”
“Ah Y/N, you’re here early.”
I bow deep, a full 90 degrees. “Colossus-nim, please allow me to stay in Korea and manage Mina’s recovery schedule.”
“That is not what I thought you were going to say.” You felt his eyes on you. “Please stand up Y/N.”
You raise your head, a fierce expression on your face. It takes every ounce of will to hold his eye contact.
“Y/N, do you even know what Mina is going through? We haven’t made any announcements.”
“It doesn’t matter,” I didn’t know, but I have an idea.
“I know how important all the girls are to you, this would mean that you will miss the entire world tour. Your chance at traveling the world with them, your chance at moving forward in your management career”
“Yes, I understand.” I said.
He looks at you with all too knowing eyes.
“Y/N, you know this would be a professional assignment, you will take her to her appointments, you will get her anything she needs, you will be the single point of contact for all things Mina needs from JYP entertainment.”
“I understand sir. I still want the assignment.”
“Good, because you were requested,”
“Requested sir?”
“Sit down Y/N.”
“Mina has been diagnosed with severe anxiety. It has crippled her self confidence and caused her to have bouts of a near catatonic state. It has gotten to the point where she is ready to leave, quit the company and group.”
I’m watching him talk but I am stunned.
“Her group mates managed to talk her down enough to come in last night. She then talked to me and JYP, she agreed to continue with the group but stay on hiatus until she’s ready to return but she had one condition. She requested you manage her activities as she recovers.”
“She requested me?” I managed to croak out.
“Yes, initially JYP was against it but… Well, I know you well enough to think you can do the job, and I believe you can have a positive effect on her treatment.”
“Y/N I saw the tape from last night after she left the dance studio. It looked intimate.” His gaze wasn’t judgmental or disapproving but was that worry?
“I can exp-“
“It took some convincing but JYP agrees that someone needs to stay with her. And you seemed to reach her as she was nearing her breaking point.”
“Yeah you mean stay in Seoul, to help her right?”
“Well I mean, you’ll stay in the JYP apartments. Next door to the girls' dorm. All JYP paid for of course. We will need you to be close to her at all times of the day.”
My eyes widened. I can help her.
“You will help shuttle her to and from scheduled therapy sessions and back here on days she feels up to training. We’d like to get her back on tour if possible but will let her heal at her own pace.”
“Understood sir. When do I start?” I can make a difference!
“Immediately. We have a staff meeting with the girls in 30 minutes. We are going to announce the tour team that’s leaving with the tour. It’ll give you some time to wish the rest of the girls good luck.”
“Do they know? That Mina asked for me to stay behind?”
“They do not.”
“Oh…”
30 minutes later
(Nayeon’s POV)
I brush the drywall while being ushered down the long hallway to the boardroom. Everyone’s eyes have red rings around them.
There’s a mixture of sadness, anger and disappointment lingering in the air.
All of us are emotionally drained. It should be an exciting time but with what happened last night it’s hard to not think of Mina.
“Jihyo, do you know what we are meeting about?” I said while leaning my head on her shoulder.
“I think they’re explaining to us the travel plans for when we leave tomorrow.” She said,
We walk into the boardroom and I’m surprised to see JYP at the head of the table.
