JYPE Building: Meeting war room
“Mitan, are you sure you don’t want to go find your members?” I asked.
“I already text them that I’ll meet them here.”
She was sitting to my left, chair pulled close to me. Emi was on the right tapping away at her laptop.
The rest of the girls started to trickle in.
“There you are Mitan!” Sana said loudly as she came into the room and plopped next to her.
“Hi Y/N! Emi!” Dahyun said loudly.
“Hi girls, please everyone take a seat.”
Nayeon came in last. She sat right across from me.
“Ok let’s get started, there is a lot to go through so stop me at any point if you have questions or comments.”
“There are three or so main concepts that I think could fit your next mini album and I’d like your feedback.”
I gestured to Emi and she started distributing packets.
Inside you’ll find the rough versions of each comeback along with visuals for wardrobe, stages and a written line of the concept's core theme.
We also have reference tracks for each of these. Not the full album but enough to get the idea for the sound of the comeback.
They were professionals at their core so they listened diligently while Emi and I presented what I thought would be the strongest candidates.
An hour later we were still flipping through pages.
Mina stayed in my space and we kept stealing glances at each other.
“Can you play that reference track again?” Jihyo asked.
Music swelled in the room. When it finished the room went oddly silent. The girls are waiting for their leader to talk.
“They’re all great Y/N, but I think we were looking for something more interesting.”
“Interesting? I guess we picked these because they fit you all so well.”
“That’s true they would all work really well, but we heard Ryujin’s solo, we thought you brought something out in her we haven’t seen before.”
Mina tugged the sleeve of my shirt.
I looked over at her.
“Oppa, show them the bubble concept. The unique one.”
The room went silent, all looking at me and Mina.
“Wait, that one is well, it's a bit experimental.”
She nodded.
I gestured to Emi.
This one is slightly different as you can see. I only have rough sketches of how it would look.
The concept is movement into the future. You guys are going on 10 plus years now. You have the freedom and ability to do anything in the industry and yet you stay together.
Think visually it’ll be like Cyberpunk edge runners meets Andor. A ton of neon shaper edges brighter color palettes mixed with dark undertones.
“What about the music?” Chaeyoung asked.
“Well that’s where we experimented.” I played a reference track.
As the track started to play I narrated.
“The base of the album will lean heavily into synth-pop and R&B. There will be a good mix of slower grove driven tracks and higher energy dance tracks. It’s really blending genres. The core of it is momentum.”
The girls' faces lit up.
Mina nudged my shoulder and smiled up at me.
“Where did you get these references from?” Jihyo asked.
“Yeah that guitar is insane.” Chaeyoung added.
I looked over at Emi.
She nodded.
Back in the states, these were made with some friends of ours. He’s in a band called Polyphia. And the singer. That’s actually Jurin from XG.
“What?! MiSaMo said at the same time.”
“I didn’t know you knew XG Oppa!” Mina said playfully, hitting me.
“We love them.” Sana said.
“Introduce us Y/N.” Momo demanded.
The room settled into a controlled chaos, the girls pouring over the concept drawings.
I looked over the table and Nayeon was watching me with a soft smile. She hadn’t said much in the last hour.
“Ok ok girls Nayeon spoke up.”
