i’d say it’s not the storm of butterflies
the ones that multiply inside my stomach
whenever i am by your side
it’s not the way my heart would skip a beat
like pebbles on a summer day
dancing on the fleeting ripples
every time you look my way
it’s not the endless nights my mind goes racing
battling the urge to drift away to sleep
for how can dreams compare to waking
when you are truly mine to keep
it’s not the way my lips would curl
for no apparent rhyme or reason
into this unexpected smile on my face
that’s lasted through these seasons
but nor is it the warmth and peace
that came around without a warning
caressing my body like a blanket
the way the sun does every morning
and certainly not the way
my fingers fit right in between yours
as if they were made and molded from each other
from a thousand lives before
so please don’t ask me what is love
for i have not the slightest clue
instead i’ll tell you who and when and where and how is love
