Oh How The Turntables Have Turned

Here you are again, another day plugging away in Excel while mindlessly listening to the same songs from the same playlist you have had since high school. Such is the life of a 20-something year old at an entry level position in the corporate world. Your peaceful little bubble is suddenly bursted when someone takes your left airpod out of your ear. Looking around to find the culprit, you are met with the smiling face of your long time crush and now girlfriend Ahyeon. Your annoyance from the disturbance quickly shifts into a shit eating grin that you desperately try to control. Seeing you try to control your smile, Ahyeon giggles before saying "When do you want to get lunch? Ruka Unnie said she can join us today?"

"I think I can grab it in at 11:45. That work?"

"Yep!" Ahyeon happily replies before putting your airpod back in and walking away. Watching her walk away, you smiled to yourself before turning back to your computer to work… not before letting yourself appreciate your girlfriend's exquisite figure, especially taking note of her slim waist and mouthwatering legs.

11:45 finally came around so you headed over to Ahyeon's desk to grab her for lunch; but when you got there, you saw something you weren't expecting. Some guy at her desk with her and making her laugh. Who the hell is this guy? You've never seen him before in your life. From the look of it, he's an employee at your work; but you have no clue what team he is on and why he would be at Ahyeon's desk. While you were trying to figure out who he was, Ruka walked up to you and saw what you were looking at.

"That's Minho. He just started in the law department. I saw him getting toured around by Chaeyoung sunbae earlier this morning".

"Why is he at Ahyeon's desk though? She doesn't work with the Law Department at all?" Before Ruka could reply, Ahyeon finally noticed you two and waved you two over. Walking over to her desk, Ahyeon excitedly introduced you two to Minho.

"Minho, this is Ruka Unnie and Y/N. We all went to university together and Ruka Unnie is a year senior to me and Y/N."

"Nice to meet you Y/N and Ruka Sunbaenim. I'm Minho, I just started in the law department under Chaeyoung Sunbaenim."

"Nice to meet you Minho" you and Ruka replied.

"We're about to head to lunch, would you like to join us Minho?" Ahyeon asked.

"I would love to, thank you Sunbae" Minho replied.

Hearing Minho quickly drop the formality with Ahyeon caused you to raise your eyebrow; but before you could say anything, Ruka spoke up "Perfect, let’s go. Since Minho is joining us, I can put lunch on the corporate card as a Welcome Lunch"

"Free food!" Ahyeon yelled out little too excitedly which caused you to shake your head while smiling; but what made you quickly drop your smile was seeing Minho do the exact same thing. What is he doing smiling at your girlfriend's antics?!

"Yah, Ahyeon you are still on a food limit. I got reprimanded the last time we ate on the corporate card because of how much you ordered".

"Ugh, fine Unnie. I'll keep it lowkey this time"

The four of you then headed to a nice little Italian restaurant that you three liked to go to during lunch because of the absurd proportions they gave out.

When y'all got to the restaurant, you were quickly seated at a 4 top table; but before you could sit down, Minho pulled out a chair for Ahyeon then quickly grabbed the seat next to her. Not wanting to make a big deal out of it, especially since you and Ahyeon had just started a few weeks earlier and aside from Ruka, no one at work knew you two were together, you pulled out the chair for Ruka and sat down next to her and poured all four of you some water. What you didn't notice was Ahyeon staring daggers at you then moving her glare over to Ruka who merely shrugged.

"Minho, what's your backstory? Where'd you go to college?" you asked.

"Oh, I went to Harvard for undergrad then Yale for law school"

"Oh my god, that's insane. You must be super smart" Ahyeon said amazed.

"So where did y'all go to University?" Minho asked.

"We all went to Yonsei" Ruka replied.

"Oh cool, how'd y’all meet?" Minho asked.

"Well, Ahyeon and I were on the same floor her freshman year and became friends through that; but Ahyeon and Y/N go way back" Ruka responded.

"Oh really, how far back?"

"We met in 7th grade when I transferred into her school, and she was class president, so she showed me around the school. We've been friends since although we have always run in different circles. She was Ms. Popular while I mostly kept to my core friends throughout the rest of middle and high school before we both ended up at the same University where it was still pretty much the same" you said while flipping through the menu.

A few minutes later, you all put your order in with the waitress, with plenty of appetizers for Ahyeon of course.

When the appetizers arrived, Minho quickly put some on Ahyeon's plate and his own before letting you grab some for yourself and Ruka. Although you are still weirded out by the sudden closeness and seemingly possessiveness from Minho when it comes to your Ahyeon, you brush past it again and put some food on Ruka's plate before giving yourself some as well. The rest of the lunch went by pretty seamlessly with Ahyeon stealing food from both your and Ruka's entree's when they arrived. The girl has bottomless stomach and still maintains an insanely slim figure. You of course know how much effort she puts into exercising, but you still have no clue how she keeps such a fit body (although as the one who gets to reap the rewards of it, you are not complaining one bit).

Later in the afternoon, after you had returned from lunch, you decided to go over to Ahyeon's desk to check in on her but before you can get there, you see Minho once again hanging around your girlfriend's desk. Deciding that you didn't want to deal with hearing Minho flirt or "being friendly" with her, you decide to go talk to Ruka instead. Seeing you approach her desk, Ruka raises her eyebrows before looking over at Ahyeon's desk and seeing who was there. Seeing you sulk over; she quickly pats you on the shoulder in reassurance before asking if you wanted to go on a walk around the building with her, which you accepted. You two then headed out of Ruka and Ahyeon's department and started walking around the building. While you two were leaving, you noticed that Ruka had a smirk on her face.

"What's so funny?" you ask.

"Nothing you need to worry about" Ruka cheekily replies. But what you don't notice and what she is smirking at is Ahyeon's face scrunching in annoyance and confusion when seeing you and Ruka leaving alone and without her.

Four days later and it is finally Friday. The rest of your work week after having your Monday spoiled with Minho "being friendly" to your girlfriend during lunch had been mostly the same as well as getting absolutely slammed with projects, so much so that you had stayed at the office until 6pm for the past 4 days. Minho had decided that he was part of your group and had inserted himself into your life and especially your girlfriend's life. Every time you had gone to talk to her during the week, you had already been beaten to the punch by Minho, so you had spent the entire week with Ruka instead. Of course, you loved Ruka as a friend and enjoyed spending time with her, what you loved slightly more was spending time with the woman you had crushed on for a decade and had finally landed as your girlfriend. Suffice it to say, you were not having a good week. What had made it even worse was that it was announced that your department was going to have a work event tonight with both Ahyeon & Ruka's department as well as Minho's. Normally you didn't mind work events; but you knew that all you were going to see was Minho openly flirting with your girlfriend while you had to stand there and take it since you 1) didn't want to make a scene at work and 2) you didn't want to be seem like a possessive boyfriend. Deciding that it was probably more productive to actually do your job instead of sulking and inwardly raging Minho, you put in both your airpods and open up PowerBI.

Before you knew it, it was 11:30 and Ahyeon had teams'd you, Ruka, and Minho about getting lunch. Knowing you were in a bad mood as well as having a hard End of Day deadline on your current project, you responded with a curt "Can't" which Ruka replied to with a "Same". Ahyeon being the sweet person she was asked if either of you wanted her to grab y'all anything. Ruka asked her to grab a sandwich and you, being annoyed with work and the idea of Ahyeon and Minho grabbing lunch just the two of them, just replied to Ruka's request with a "^".

A little while later, you see a sandwich dropped on your desk out of your peripheral vision and a body standing behind it, which you knew had to be Ahyeon. You quickly said a curt "Thanks" not bothering to turn or take out your airpods. Seeing the body not move, you finally turn and see Ahyeon staring at you with her arms crossed. Seeing that you weren't in the mood to talk, Ahyeon turned and went back to her desk which caused you to feel guilty, but you shoved that down by focusing on your work and feeding on your annoyance of her being oblivious to the constant flirtation from Minho.

Since there was a work event later in the evening, your work had said that anyone going could leave work at 4pm to go home and get ready if you wanted to; but of course, you weren't lucky enough to be able to cut out early. Seemed like it was going to be another 6pm exit which meant that you would have to go straight to the restaurant that the event was being held at. Seeing Ahyeon approach your desk, you take out your airpod.

"Y/N, how much longer do you have to stay?" she asked.

"I don't know. I'll probably won't be able to go home before the event, so you'll have to go there by yourself. I'll join you as soon as I can" you say.

"Okay, don't work too late. You've been working yourself too hard this week Y/N. You haven't gone home before 6 and all you've done is work, game, and sleep. We haven't spent any time with each other at work or at home".

"I know. My workload has just been insane this week. We'll hang out this weekend."

"We better or else" Ahyeon said while trying to make the angriest face she could.

"Of course," you said smiling at her "angry" face.

When you are finally able to put your out of office it is 7:15pm already. Packing up your backpack, you start to head out of the office, and you are surprised to see Ruka walking out at the same time.

"What are you still doing here Ruka?"

"Same as you Y/N. Had to get some stuff done before the weekend…"

"Well at least we're done for the week I guess except for dinner tonight."

"Which we are late to, so let’s get going Y/N"

When you and Ruka finally get to the restaurant for the work event, it’s already 7:45pm. You two enter together which is greeted by some hooting and hollering from your coworkers who are already enjoying the open bar. Throughout the noise, you are able to make out a few words "Were you two working on a 'merger'?", "Get a room you two and I'm not talking about a conference room", and some other less work appropriate words as well. Both of you just shake your head at the nonsense; but unfortunately for you, someone else was not as amused and when you finally spot Ahyeon, you see her staring at you with murder in her eyes while Minho sits next to her trying to get Ahyeon to pay attention to him.

Meekly, you direct Ruka to Ahyeon and Minho's table which happens to have two open spaces directly across from them. Going to sit down, you pull out a chair for Ruka before seating yourself. While pulling out the chair, you hear a loud crack. Looking up, you see that Ahyeon holding the remains of a set of wooden chopsticks which were being held a little too hard. Gulping, you pour yourself and Ruka some water which causes Ahyeon sneer at you.
