Chaeyoung was going through the clothes in her closet. Because she had been too busy with work and that she came home later than usual, she forgot to even check if she had the right clothes to go to a recital.
The big day was tomorrow and Chaeyoung realized that she didn’t have anything nice to wear. She didn’t really want to wear her work outfit, maybe settling with something that was close to a smart casual look.
She probably needed to consult Mina about it.
“Baby?” Mina’s head peaked through her door. “You busy?”
Chaeyoung smiled at the sight of her girlfriend. She opened the door for her and kissed her lips gently. “I have time for you. What’s up?”
Mina smiled at the kiss and wrapped her arms around her neck. “I have friends coming over and I wanted to introduce you to them.”
Oh boy.
“Okay. Sure,” she said, trying to not sound nervous. This was probably Sana and Momo. It didn’t help that Nayeon and Dahyun had been constantly warning her about the two. “I’d love to meet them.” She then cleared her throat.
Mina loosened her grip on Chaeyoung and slid her hands down to her chest, then narrowed her eyes. “Did Nayeon say anything?”
Chaeyoung gulped. She didn’t want to lie but she also didn’t want to tell her what she knew. “Yes?”
Before Mina could say anything, the doorbell suddenly rang.
“I’ll go get that.” Mina pulled away from Chaeyoung and rushed downstairs. Chaeyoung let out a sigh of relief, at least she could avoid that one for now. She probably had to go down and say hello to her friends already. She checked herself in the mirror quickly and exited her bedroom as well.
She could already hear a high-pitched voice coming from outside and it got louder when the front door opened.
Chaeyoung decided to take a deep breath before she made her way downstairs.
When she turned to the living room she was met with two pairs of eyes looking at her from the couch.
“Wow, Mina,” the taller one with straight black hair said, then looked at her friend. “You’re starting to like the cuter ones, now?”
Mina covered her face partially with a hand. “Momo, please.”
“She really is cute!” the other one exclaimed, jumping from her seat.
Mina sighed and approached Chaeyoung, taking her hand to bring her closer to her friends. “Chaeng, this is Momo and Sana. Our friends from school.” She looked at the two. “Guys, this is Chaeyoung. Please be nice.”
Sana scoffed. “When have we never?” Then she smiled at Chaeyoung. “It’s nice to finally meet you Chaeyoung.”
She managed to smile. She definitely remembered them from Nayeon and Dahyun's wedding. “It's nice to finally be able to meet you guys as well. Since it was pretty quick paced during the wedding.”
“Oh right, we weren't able to talk much to you guys during the wedding,” Momo said as she laid back further into the couch, trying to remember the events that happened then. “But I can't for the life of me, remember that much since I was so hammered that night.”
“This is why I'm glad I missed the reception,” Mina said with a small exhale. She then sat next to them, coaxing Chaeyoung to follow.
Once Chaeyoung sat by the living chair at the side near Mina’s, the two already leaned forward towards her and looked at her expectantly.
“So...” Momo started. “How long have you been dating Mina?”
“I already told you—"
Sana placed a finger on her lips abruptly, making Mina flinch. “Shush, Mitang. We wanna hear it from Chaeyoung.”
Chaeyoung couldn’t help but chuckle at how Mina was being easily overpowered by her friends. So she decided to indulge them. “Maybe about three weeks now?”
“Only?” Momo asked with an unconvinced look on her face. “Mina mentioned you to us like a long time ago.”
“Well, I guess we already started showing signs that we liked each other that time.” Chaeyoung smiled sweetly at a disgruntled Mina and then looked back at the two friends. “But either way, I'm happy to be with her. She makes me feel really special inside.”
Sana couldn’t help but squeal at the answer. The two friends were already shoving Mina with how giddy they felt for her. Chaeyoung definitely enjoyed watching their interactions and not minding the barrage of questions that were sent her way.
Unlike Dahyun, she was able to keep her cool with all the weird questions they asked. She really liked them, but she enjoyed it most with how they were with Mina. It was like Mina was a little sister and they coddled her even if she started to get tired of it.
Luckily, they managed to calm down once Mina brought them light snacks and the three friends started catching up with their lives. Chaeyoung decided to start prepping for dinner once it reached five in the afternoon, of course without getting a little teasing from Sana and Momo and telling Mina she bagged a good one.
Chaeyoung couldn’t help but smile at that comment. Though, she felt like it was the other way around.
After a while, they heard Yukiko come home and the two didn’t hesitate to pile over the teen. Telling her that they took the time off to also attend the recital with Mina and Chaeyoung. Which of course made the girl happier than she was compared to the previous weeks.
It seemed that Sana and Momo were also involved in raising Yukiko as well, since they immediately asked her pretty personal questions. Their conversations jumped from her friends, then about school and the teachers, then to asking the girl if she already had a crush on someone. Yukiko’s answers were lively, and she somehow kept up with the energy of her two aunties.
Chaeyoung’s mind seemed to wander off from the conversation when she started putting the food inside the pan and she turned her head when she felt someone standing next to her.
“You okay?” She looked at the teenager, giving her a smile. “Got tired from talking to your aunties?”
She shook her head. “They told me to help you out. I think they’re going to gossip about something and it’s probably gross.”
Chaeyoung raised a brow at that. Hoping it wasn’t about sex or about her and Mina... and their sex. “Well, your aunt mentioned that they haven’t seen each other in a while.” She stirred the food in the pan. “You wanna help me with the rice?”
“Sure!” Yukiko padded behind her to set up the rice cooker and started cleaning the rice over the sink. “Hey, Chaeyoung? I have a question.”
“Ask away.”
“Are you in love with Aunt Mina?” she asked in a low voice, only enough for both of them to hear.
Chaeyoung paused, her heartbeat quickened.
“She means a lot to me, I’ve seen her hurting for so long because of that one girl that broke her heart. It made me worry about her. That she’ll never be happy again,” she added, eyes not leaving the sink. “Ever since you got here, she’s always smiling, and she talks more than she did before. I want to believe that the reason is because you guys are in love, and I know that people are happy when they fall in love.”
That made her heart swell. She didn’t expect to hear all of that from Yukiko. But words coming from a child always meant it was sincere and honest. So if she was saying that Mina was hurting for a while and that she was able to make Mina happy again, then that meant she did a good thing.
Then again, she didn’t really have a specific reason why she wanted to do this for Mina. She just wanted to. She genuinely wanted to make her happy. Maybe that alone was love.
“Wow,” Chaeyoung couldn’t help but say, trying her best to not lose focus on her cooking. But she turned off the stove and faced Yukiko. “I am in love with her.” She met eyes with the teenager, feeling a bit silly to admit this to her. “I think I’ve always been without realizing it. I can’t help but think about having a future with her, seeing her every day, spending as much time as I can with just the three of us.”
She took a deep breath and smiles, seeing how Yukiko was smiling as well, eyes glossy with tears. “So yeah, I guess I really am in love with her.”
“You should tell her then,” Yukiko said with a big smile.
