"Welcome to Club Icarus!" 5 gorgeous girls dressed in different winged outfits greet the throng of people filing into the club. "Please enjoy yourself!" The drinks flow, the music is loud, and the bass is thumping. They make sure the clubgoers are well taken care of—drinks, snacks, service, the works. Best of all, it was free!
"That was a blast!" "The drinks were great!" "I had a lot of fun!"
"What's their business strategy, how do they make money off this?" A satisfied but puzzled MBA student asks out loud.
They don't. At 3 AM the girls don their real wings and return to their abode.
Heaven.
"Come girls, let's see how much karma we accrued today." Haseul calls out, folding her majestic wings as she lands in the clouds, and the other girls follow—Jinsoul, Kim Lip, Heejin, Choerry. "Hmm, Jinsoul gave away the most drinks, Kim Lip gave away the most snacks, Heejin sang the most, and Choerry—"
"Gave the most smiles!" she chirps happily.
"Yes yes. Oh, looks like we got a lot today, good job!"
"As always Haseul unnie gave the most greetings, both hello and goodbye!" Heejin praises her leader.
"It's a team effort! Remember girls, same time tomorrow!" With a chorus of yeses they filter back to their own slices of heaven. All except for Choerry, who has a question that her fellow angels have never quite answered: How do humans fall in love?
Dressed in human-appropriate attire she drifts back to Earth, with wings concealed by angelic magic, Choerry appears to be any other young woman—exceptionally pretty perhaps, but not supernatural. She walks about, taking in the couples all around her: The lovey-dovey ones, unable to see anyone but each other, sometimes quite literally; The ones that just fought, which Choerry learned come in many kinds (the guy chasing after his girlfriend, the girl chasing after her boyfriend, the guy chasing after his boyfriend, the girl chasing after her girlfriend, so many combinations!); There were young couples, stealing looks at each other and not quite comfortable yet; The old married ones interested her too, bickering but loyal, how did they stay together if they fight all the time? Choerry never quite understood.
"Oh, weren't you at the club, one of the owners right?" Choerry's so engrossed in her thoughts she doesn't see him wave to her until she's right there.
"Yes? Oh yes, sorry what club?"
"Club Icarus! You were there last night right?"
"Ah! Yes, thank you for coming by yesterday!"
"Of course! Do you umm, think I could get your number?"
"Number?"
"Yeah, like phone number?"
"Phone number? Why?"
"Ah, er... I would like to get to know you better." He's confused, did Choerry not understand his intentions?
"Oh sure, let's be friends!" She cheerfully gives her his number.
"Wait really? Uh thanks! Yes let's be friends! Are you going to be at the club tonight?"
"Yes!"
That same night Choerry's eyes light up when she sees him come through the door.
"Hi friend! Welcome!"
"Thanks!"
"Have fun!" Choerry waves him in and greets the next guest, leaving him nonplussed. I guess she has her job to do. He hangs around for quite a while, trying to see if Choerry has a spare moment. She does eventually, and he drinks his liquid courage and walks up to her.
"Hi Choerry, can I buy you a drink?"
"Oh hey! No that's okay, I'm the owner here, I can get it for free!"
"Oh, right, sorry, that's silly of me." Choerry reassures him brightly, and he's thoroughly confused, trying to read Choerry's signals when she isn't even aware that she's sending any. "Listen, could I see you outside?"
"Outside?" Choerry calls out to her unnies. "I'll be right back!"
"No that's not what I—" Maybe that's actually better, and he joins Choerry outside the club.
"What is it?"
"Sorry things have been confusing. I'm interested in you, and you gave me your number so I thought you were interested too, so I was wondering if we could go on a date sometime?"
"Date?" That's when it clicks for Choerry: He likes her! Maybe this will help her better understand what is love! "Oh, oh yes, that'd be fun!"
"T-That's great, thank you! When are you free?"
"Anytime!"
"Tomorrow afternoon, coffee?"
"Great, I know a good spot, let me text it to you!" Turns out, it's just the cafe right next to the club, and he shows up the next day on time, just as Choerry appears from around the corner. They go in, and he offers to buy her coffee.
"Sure, I'll have what you're having!" That appears to be a mistake, for as soon as Choerry takes a sip— "Euugh, it's so bitter! You drink this?"
"It's coffee, it's supposed to be bitter, would you like something else?"
"Yes please, maybe a lemonade?" He gets her a cherry-ade, and she loves it! "Ooh that's good, nice and sweet, thank you!" They get to talking, and Choerry is engaged, responsive, interested and interesting. Some of her answers seemed odd—she couldn't answer where her hometown is, or where she lives in the city, or how the other owners are her 4 sisters, yet they look nothing alike. All of that he could overlook though, because she was charming and making him feel wanted, and by the end of the date he was truly smitten.
"I had a great time, thank you for today."
"Me too!"
"Can we do this again sometime?"
"Yes, soon!"
Choerry flies back to heaven soon after, only to be met by her unnies waiting for her at the gates.
"Choerry, where were you?" Haseul questions her.
"Hm? I was meeting my friend!"
"What friend?" Jinsoul interrogates her.
