Falling for You, Again

Aha! I’m back.

This week, this fic, this one, this one is special.

Everything I felt reading this fic for the first time is still fresh in my mind. Qwib’s a great writer (this feels ad nauseam to say…), and there’s a good reason this is one of my top recommendations on fanprose.

The plot, the trope, it’s a classic. One that has so much potential. But what makes this fic stand out from the rest is the execution of it all. The feels (boy i, boy i, boy i know) are so real in these 13k words, and I absolutely fell in love with the characters he created, both mc and Yooyeon herself. Finishing this fic made me want to immediately write a fic in the exact same vein, like a spiritual successor to his work that would also allow me to give my own spin on it.

I’m not sure how exactly to quantify or qualify how good this fic is, so I can only really share it’s impact on me. At the time, I had completely no idea who Yooyeon was, so this fic really kind of read to me as pure fiction rather than fanfiction. I feel like it should say something that finishing it made me want to invest in triples content more? A fic like this actually made me sit up and go, who is this person? She sounds interesting! It’s a fic that’s so personally fulfilling, because I felt so grateful to read something so well crafted and well intended.

Each scene is crafted so well. Well detailed, giving insight to the world and the characters around without ever feeling draggy. I might just be smitten with qwib’s narrative voice in particular, but I really appreciate how he manages to always give less than the full picture, so it feels like you’re always begging to know just a little more, to want to understand all the secrets qwib so cleverly hides.

The romance between the two main characters feels so tangible here. First time reading it through, the premise seems so believable. The story feels so believable. And that’s even before qwib pulls the rug from under our feets with the most genius twist. This is such a beautiful, perfectly written romance story. One that requires zero prior investment in the characters for all the emotions to land.

I would ask, how much of this fic was preplanned? It plays out like a well-directed movie, an Oscar-winning entry. Was the sequence of each scene already strung together? This reads like something so raw and personal, it really had me in complete awe.
