You spot the last cream cheese bread, at your favourite cafe. After surviving your routine 9-5 workday, you often come to this place, with a spot by the window being your favourite.
Apparently, so had she.
Your fingers touch her at the exact same moment.
“Oh, sorry!”
“No, no you can take it —- “
You spoke over each other before taking a glance up. The girl blinked at you from beneath her baseball cap, in her big hoodie. Tired eyes and strands of hair peeking out from the cap.
“Cute… she's cute” you thought to yourself before awkwardly withdrawing your hand first.
“Erm, I think you were way faster. You should take it”
“It is okay, I was actually going for the chocolate croissant”
She laughs softly, knowing that you were just being polite.
Meanwhile the cafe worker looks at the both of you in disgust, as someone who did not get paid enough to witness this heavy flirting over a cream cheese bread.
“Why not split it?” she offers
“Who splits a cream cheese bun like this?
She pushes the tray toward you. “Well then you take it , I insist.”
“That’s suspiciously generous of you”
“What you think I poisoned this bread, i just met you” she chuckles softly.
For some reason, your heart skips a little. You took the tray quietly , bought the bread, before handing it over to her.
“You’re weird, but I will accept the bread”
You got yourself another bread before heading to your usual spot with the girl sitting at a neighbouring table. Occasionally, you caught her glancing up from her phone, and you subconsciously hope that she was staring over at you.
Then her drink arrives.
“Here’s your order, IU-nim”
You stare at her, and she stares at the barista.
“.. You weren’t supposed to say that!!” She pouts.
The realisation hit you a good 3 seconds late.
“OH, OH!!!”
The woman sitting across from you in the oversize hoodies… was IU.
“... You’re really famous.”
She almost chokes on her coffee.
“That’s your reaction?”
“I don’t know what famous people expect.”
“Usually a sold out stadium, and fans screaming?”
“I already lost to you over bread, screaming would make me look even bigger of a loser”
To your surprise, she laughs again.
“You really didn’t recognise me?”
“Well not really…”
“You’re either a really nice guy or extremely good at lying, I thought you gave me the bread cause you knew i was a celebrity”
“Both can be true at the same time!!”
You never got her number. I mean why in the world would she even give it to you, you are a nobody.
6.30pm… maybe you should drop by daily here at this time.

Honestly, you didn’t think you’d see her again. But fate had other plans.
Three days later, she appeared at the exact same cafe at the exact same time.
You noticed her immediately this time, i mean you were kind of expecting her.
“How tragic, my pastry rival has arrived”
“She looks genuinely offended by your remark.
“You say that like I planned this.”
“Well, you’re telling me Korea’s biggest celebrity accidentally revisits the exact same tiny cafe?”
“Maybe I just love their CREAM cheese buns”
“Nobody is buying that lie!”
“Or maybe I just like talking to you”
That shuts you instantly, face blushing.
