Random Paradox of the Moment Ship of Theseus If every plank, nail, and sail of a ship is gradually replaced until none of the original material remains, is it still the same ship? What if you reassemble the old parts into a second ship? An interesting thing I thought about and related this to the human body. Are we still we??? Most of our cells are replaced over time. If personal identity required the persistence of the exact same material particles, none of us would be the same person we were a decade ago. Yet we ordinarily take ourselves to be continuous selves.
