Author's note

Note on Interludes: The interlude chapters aren't required to follow the main plot, but they contain some of the most important character exposition in the series, serving as one-shots/side stories within the larger universe of Jeju Heat. I do however strongly recommend following the main plot sequentially. This story was written primarily through a kishotenketsu structure rather than monomyth, both at the series and chapter level, so it functions through accumulated meaning where later chapters reference and recontextualize events from earlier chapters. I understand that this is unusual in storytelling and cognitively demanding when it's asking you to hold the whole thing in your head, but I believed that it was more emotionally true to my vision, while also functioning as a mirror of life itself. I hope the Intro, the Author's Notes, the Series Index and the BTS posts help with that! I wanted to show life as this thing that isn’t always some epic hero’s journey, but a vignette of accumulated and contextualized experiences that we eventually pass on to others through what we come to frame as wisdom. With that said, welcome to Jeju Heat - the untold story of a girl group learning about both the cost and liberation of outgrowing their debut concept, as they take their first terrified, tender steps into a brave new world of emotional honesty.
