"Shouldn't you be at the palace?" Jimin asked grumpily. She didn't even bother to hide her irritation and annoyance as she crossed her arms while facing Chaewon.
"Jimin..." Minjeong calls her cautiously.
"Shouldn't you be minding your own business?" Chaewon snapped back.
"I was."
"Clearly not."
"You're still talking."
"So are you."
"Uhmmm..." Yizhuo tried to interject — emphasis on tried.
Chaewon then sighed wearily, "Besides, I'd rather be far away from Uchinaga Aeri right now..."
"So you'd rather be close to Seren? Is that what you're saying?" Yu Jimin was undeterred.
I pressed my forehead against my hands. These two have been at it for about half an hour already, disagreeing about everything just for spite. Ning Yizhuo shot me a look of sympathy. This isn't exactly that kind of "talk" I was expecting for this Archives shift.
It was peaceful — at the start. Jimin arrived just a little bit after Yizhuo and I finished cleaning up the things the previous shift left. Before we could talk about everything that happened though, Minjeong and Chaewon walked through the Archive doors — and now we're stuck listening as two ladies who should have undoubtedly know better are now leaning on the reception desk, glaring daggers at each other, and having the most immature verbal exchange we've ever heard for at least two lifetimes.
"I'm here because my sister is here, Yu Jimin," Chaewon reminded. The room hasn't heated up yet, which I took as a good sign — so far Chaewon is still reining her emotions in, and by extension, her powers. Minjeong's presence also probably helped.
"Then you should just keep looking at her, not at your... 'childhood friend'," Jimin clapped back, making Yizhuo wince and Minjeong throw her hands in frustration.
I decided enough is enough and decided to get in between them. I rose from my seat, attempting to at least break their line of sight of each other, "You're taking it too far now, Jimin —"
"So you're taking her side now?" Jimin shot me with a glare.
It was then my turn to throw my hands in frustration and slump back to my chair. Of course it's always the guy's fault — we never do anything right.
I considered using vampiric charm to calm them down. But looking back at the events of last night, I decided not to. It was a bad thing I overwhelmed Saerom with it last night — well what happened after wasn't entirely bad but, this morning presents completely different circumstances.
This time, I'm at work, and surrounded by women I was intimately connected with — sexually, romantically, and/or both. Using vampiric charm here, losing control, then making them accidentally horny would cause more trouble than it's worth — tempting as it is.
Yizhuo shot me another look of sympathy — which was multiplied when Minjeong shot me a look of apology.
"Why not?" Chaewon snapped. "I'm his 'childhood friend' and you're just 'Ms It's Complicated.' Shouldn't he side with the one who knew him first?"
"I'm the one who knows who he is right now!" Jimin retorted.
"Yet neither of you actually knew Minjeong —" I unintentionally raised my voice, snapping the two women out of whatever they were doing, their expressions shifting into shame and remorse.
I sighed as the Archives finally had some peace and quiet. "I'm sorry..." I said as I relaxed on my seat.
"It's okay —" both Chaewon and Jimin started at the same time.
