The seaside café always felt like the perfect place to spend a morning. At least that’s what Jimin thought, spending every day there, from sunrise until noon. The smell of freshly brewed coffee, the sound of the waves pounding at the rocks — all elements that provide her with the perfect sense of inner tranquillity to start her day.
Jimin frequented the café every day, but little did she know, she wasn’t the only one. Too immersed in her own world, busy reading book after book and writing in her little journal, she failed to notice the pair of eyes that always linger on her. Watching, building courage to approach her, to talk to her, to see her smile in that beautiful way she did — the kind of smile that could blind even the sun.
On a particularly gloomy morning, one filled with overcast skies and heavy rains, Jimin decided that sitting at the café wasn’t the best way to spend her morning. The waves too loud, the sun hiding away amongst the clouds. But in her quick desire to exit into a warmer abode, she left her little notebook on her usual table.
This was immediately noticed by her admirer, and in that moment, a decision was made. It was time to approach her. Even if it was just to return her notebook.
But maybe. Maybe from that a conversation could bloom, an exchange of words could be had. Anything to hear her lovely voice directed at him.
As she exited the café, not paying much mind to where she was going, trying to keep her head down and out of the rain, she bumped into a sturdy frame.
A pair of hands held out her notebook.
“You left this,” she heard a soft but warm voice say.
Jimin laughed softly, a small smile forming upon her lips. “See, the funny thing about that notebook is there’s nothing written in it.”
The stranger glanced down at journal, worn and well-loved before meeting her eyes again.
“Maybe you just needed to find the right inspiration.”
The rain began to fall harder, soaking them through to their bones. Yet neither of them could find it in themselves to move, to break the eye contact, both feeling a spark throughout their bodies.
Jimin’s smile softened.
“Maybe you’re right.”
